Just seen a facebook page for white collar mma, I know the white collar boxing is popular but I think this might be a bit too much for the average joe. Any thoughts?

Any links to the page? I can only find one page based in Ireland and the last post was 3 years ago.

I can't see how it could possibly be worked safely.
Even if there was head gear, shin guards, and watered down rules it would still be too dangerous to allow any joe soap in a cage.
When it came to chokes, arm/leg locks etc it becomes too dangerous for somebody who's untrained.
It would have to be watered down so much that it'd be like kickboxing mixed with a small amount of judo.
I couldn't imagine anybody in ther right mind allowing two joe soaps into a cage and allowing elbows, head kicks, knees to the head, submissions.

It'd be a magnet for idiots who've seen one or two UFC events and fancy themselves as the next champ.
The sad thing is though, if it is true, it'll probably be popular with idiots and serious injuries will be inevitable which will then give the sport a bad name.

Its cage knights and is based in Belfast. From what I saw tgey provide training before the fight in the same way as white collar boxing. Its on face book

Well their friends list includes respected fighters and clubs from all over Ireland so I'd be interested to hear the full details of it and what rules their using etc.

It obviously wouldn't be using the full unified rules. I imagine it uses MMA league or maybe amateur MMA or combat grappling rules. I can't see how it would be anymore dangerous than somebody having a go at MMA league/amateur etc. With white collar boxing events people normally but in 8-12 weeks training, so not totally untrained guys going at it, it'd essentially be an MMA league exhibition night.

I think its a terrible idea as the standard would be so poor that it would be white collar boxing plus wrestling. But I don't think safety would be a massive concern.

Yeah that's why I was wondering what rules they are using. There's no info on their page or their website.
I think safety would be a fairly big concern but again it all depends on the rule set being used and the level of training received before talking part.

Facebook page is only up a week, and the website even less, www.cageknights.com.
They mention rules without detailing them. I'd imagine its one of the toned down rules sets.
Also mention a compulsory training regime

I've been asked to run 1 of these a lot lately and have not bit, I'd be interested to know what club is involved in this as if it's going to happen I'd hate to think it was been run by some cowboy club.

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

I'd be very worried about any "white collar" night with any head contact. White collar boxing they use 16oz gloves I think. Maybe 14 but nobofy's gonna get hurt or cut bad.

You'd easily get knocked out with 16oz gloves, the head guards stop the cuts

I'd be more worried about people not knowing how to defend arm bars, shoulde locks Etc.

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Ive never seen anything close to it in fairness. Maybe a trained boxer could ko someone but someone with 8-12 weeks training?

Any respectable club would not touch this with a barge pole

The white collar boxing has become a joke. I have no problem with two GAA clubs boxing each other for charity but I know lads who have multiple fights and even fight for belts

Why not join a boxing club and fight at amateur?

My biggest thing would be one fella knowing how to finish an arm bar or kimora from watching youtube and snapping the other guys arm before the ref can stop him

    Honestly sounds kind of retarded.:D

4-6 Oz gloves on anyone with 8-10 weeks training with head shots allowed is too bleeding stupid to even entertain as a concept... and without head shots allowed would be like watching a poor MMA league fight but at least it wouldn't be dangerous and wouldn't taint the sport.
White collar MMA league type events would be fun for the lads/girls competing if they had decent training 3 times a week for a few months up to their fight and if for charity then who cares, more power to them.... but head shots with cage gloves for newbies...deffo not clever.

One things for sure, they're gonna need a ref who knows their stuff.... As in, when's that arm gonna snap!

If there's a buck to be made you can bet your life, sanctioning or not someone will try promote it.

Whatever about boxing/kickboxing or kratty I fail to see how anyone can water down judo/bjj/wrestling and still make it safe for a newbie.

It can't be watered down. That's why they need a good ref to literally babysit them when they fight

Ref not confirmed yet. Still in talks with an experienced guy.

No clubs involved as this is an event to be entered as an individual.

Im going to judge myself with the two other coaches.

So you are allowing strikes on the ground. Strikes to the head. No headgear, no shin pads.
    What size gloves?

Ill wait until you confirm before I say anymore.
