If budget is a factor, then mitts are certainly an area where money can be saved. Many people (including myself) happily use cheap Lidl/Aldi special 4 euro gloves. I have also owned a few pairs of more mid-range BBB and Kelly's mitts (10-20 euro) and they perform more or less evenly.

Certainly the absolute top-end ones like these (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=105864) will perform much better. But if money is an object, don't be afraid to go cheap.

Normally wear Race Face mtb gloves decided to go fingerless on account of the weather. :-(

I recently got a pair of Castelli Rosso Corsa mitts. They are very comfortable. Not cheap mind you. As they say you get what you pay for.

To be honest I don't see any difference , I only wear them racing because of the increased risk of a fall .

The obligatory cycling tan should end at the wrist, and begin again at the base of the fingers.

The aldi ones are exceptionally good value. €3 a pair. Comfortable and hard wearing as well. I won't cut costs on bibs, jerseys, shoes etc. but I really can't see the point of expensive mitts

    +1

I bought these for Gorey 3-day, i haven't used my other pairs since....fantastic top end gloves.

Treat yourself if you can and top end gear like these will last if you look after them.

What actually is the difference between these and a €4 pair?

tbh Ive never bought a 4e pair so cant really tell the difference but i know from others say it down to comfort, long lasting, durability, longer lasting mitt padding that don't wear and tear quickly.

But then again, the lowest I bought for mitts is BBB and there as good. I feel for v.cheap gear they dont last as long if your all the time wearing them as most people on this forum do.

Maybe, but I feel Lidl/Aldi cycling gear is just as good as and far better value than the dearer stuff. I've had my €4 pair of gloves now for about 2 years, worn at least 3 times/week. :D

Completely disagree. Aldi gloves fall apart after a few months, all toss little plastic grips wear away, the padding is poor and if your hand moves in them they cut into the skin between your fingers. I lost one of my altura gloves before Sunday's race in Navan and had to use them. Should have gone without.

They might be fine for less mileage but I find they last less than a year. The Altura ones however looked new and felt new and had better padding. Pity I was stupid enough to misplace one.

When shopping for mitts, make sure they have a good 'absorbent pad' at the thumb side (i.e. snot wipe). I love my Altura classic mitts - very comfortable gloves, but I found that they quickly reached snot saturation (snoturation?) on the WW200.

'Snot pad' mitts are of most critical ;):D
