    Hi

Looking to build a shed/utility room/extra living room and hoping to get some recommendations on materials etc.

Planning on putting up a 6m x 4m internal floor space with concrete base divided into two rooms - one for utilities/garden equipment and the other to put a tv and sofa in.

What type of blocks would people recommend? 4 inch, 6 inch, cavity or not?
Bear in mind I don't really have any idea when it comes to this type of thing so if you need any more information just ask!:pac:

Hoping to get some opinions on what people would do/have done in the past and maybe some rough costings.

Looking at around 10k - realistic?
as cheap as possible really. this is just for materials. Like I said just looking for recommendations on what would be the best way to go about it.

You could consider something like these.

You could just get one made for you http://www.irishconcretebuildings.ie/pent-concrete-sheds.html and save a lot of hassle.

To be honest I would prefer to have it built on site and with the same finish and roof as the house.

We've a guy coming to put in the base for the foundations over the next couple of weeks.

I'm just looking for advice on what materials people here would use.

We don't want to go down the route of timber summerhouse and it's more of an extra room for the house than a shed - if that makes sense!

see here for whats exempt from building regulations

if its not exempt, it needs to comply to minimum standards

Yes we're aware of the regulations.
We plan to build 6m x 4m x 3m with the same roof as the house and in line with the front of the house.

As I've said I'm only looking for information on what materials people would use for this type of structure - what size/type of brick etc.
So far I've been told to build a wooden summer house, purchase a pre-built concrete shed or to check the building regulations. I've yet to receive an answer to the question asked in the first post:confused:

no, you misunderstand what I am saying above. I am not referring to being exempt from planning regulations, I am talking about being exempt from building regulations.

If you are not exempt from building regulations then the materials and method you use to build will be specific and you will have to budget for this.

Just because you may be exempt from planning regulations certainly does not mean you are exempt from building regulations.
