As a regular user of the Romeo 16 in transit (Enfield-Kildare-Athy routing), the airspace layout on the Irish chart is just very poor. Has anyone used other maps which clearly show the layout and ceilings of the airspace around Baldonnel.

The Dublin VFR chart might help.

    R15 SFC to 3000 FT
    R16 is stepped
R16 southern area is 1500 FT to 4500 FT
    R16 west is 2500 FT to FL240
R16 North Western section is 1500 FT to FL240
    MOA4 is SFC to FL450

It is designed to permit transit around to the South and West

Thanks, but its mostly to the west of this chart that I'm looking for, R16 with an outline of what you have described. I'm familiar with the breakdown of the R16, just looking for a cleaner chart to read while navigating (and with the updated version 5 1:500,00 on board also.)

The new map is very badly cluttered, and some places are hard to see, especially when flying.
I also use fly trough Romeo's a lot , and i use the older map, its much much easier to navigate.

Also have a look on skyvector.com ( online aeronautical charts).

Thanks Xpro. I might need to use the map from Skyvector and overlap it with known waypoints (enfield, Curragh, Kildare, Athy etc etc) for transit etc.
That will give me something to work on.

I'm sure it been discussed here before, but I like working with the UK CAA maps (especially the North England map that cover the north half of Ireland).

Why oh why do our aeronautical charts have to be so user un-friendly, but we're still obliged to carry them onboard.

Just wondering....Are there still towers at Ballymun to use as a VRP?

Think there may still be one or two left.

I also notice from the Dublin VFR chart that both GAR and RSH NDB's have been removed. That's the end of some of the old school nav aid's around Dublin.
