    I haven't fitted one before but I've opened up the keyswitch on one and it had the 4 cores as you describe. One cable for forward and one for reverse+ neutral and earth.

    you'll need at least 4 cores to the key switch,

    1 = earth
    2 = supply live
    3 = forward/up live
    4 = reverse/down live

    its pretty easy basically the key switch has a common, L1, L2 connection.

    so key switched one direction makes the contact common to L1 and key switched the other way makes the contact common to L2.

    so your connections would be

    earth to earth terminal
    supply live to common
    forward/up to L1
    reverse/down to L2

    You need power at every window if your going to do it between labour and parts it would be expensive,if u want to push on I would contact any blind company for a price.
