References for a job?

    Hi all,

So I'm applying for a job and have to give details of 2 referees. The problem is I have only ever had a contract or good length of time in one school, which has provided me with a great reference.

The rest of my experience is subbing. I have asked one said school for a reference but they refused to give a written one as I wasn't there long enough, fair enough, but would give one over the phone. But, I've a feeling they weren't keen to give any reference.

The second school, I have subbed in throughout the year but nothing steady or long term. I had 2 full weeks and then odd days with them.Am I wasting my time asking them for a reference?

If it says two referees then the references don't need to be written. I'd ask the principal of the second school if you can put his name on your CV as a referee.

A lot of jobs are requesting written references these days which schools do not necessarily have to write and is challenging for subs to get . The norm is just name and contact details thankfully.

Really? Have you been refused one? That's terrible. I have one from the three schools I've been in. Management have always been obliging, but maybe I've been lucky.
