Has anyone applied for one of the new driving licences? How long did it take? Mine was up for expiry so I sent it all off. Unfortunately I forgot to include an eye test as I had my eyes lasered, so they sent everything back to me about a week later. I got the eye test form and sent it all back, but that was about 3 weeks ago now and nothing. My other licence has now expired - and is also off with them. But I've had nothing back yet. Any idea what I should do?

Took me about 3 and half weeks. Sent it all in on 6th May and got it back on 30th. Just as well too as the old one was expired on 1st June!

Wow, ok cheers. I tried to call the dublin motor office but its just an endless loop of menus. It does say that the new licences are produced by a 3rd party company and to allow 3-4 weeks. So if I get stopped with no licence, and the old one is out of date - but due to their delays - are they going to let me off??

Did you get a receipt when you replaced it? That acts as your "driver's licence" until you get the plastic one.

Was told two weeks when I renewed in Galway today.
Were they taking the mick,or have they some magic formula that the rest of the country hasn't figured out yet?

Large delays due to the amount of applications.
Some offices have now dedicated an X amount of staff to deal with them and have dedicated X amount of time on some days that only the new licences will be sorted through.

I got mine in 10 days from ballymun back in march.

I think the company that will be in charge of processing the new licence is based in Galway.

Wed 22nd May - Sent my license off for renewal. Kept a colour photocopy.

Frid 31st May - Stopped by Guards (just bought car so no tax disk but had taxed it online and had that receipt) - told him I'd sent off for my new license. I showed photocopy, was given 10 days to show my license at my local station.

Wed 5th - rang Cork CoCo and asked for update. Was told that they hadn't opened my application yet. He said he would check with his manager.

Thurs 6th - Cork CoCo rang me - they had found my application, sent me a receipt and informed me that I would have my new license by 14th June!

    Fri 7th - Receipt arrived.

So Great service from Cork CoCo but the majority of the delay in processing the new licenses seems to be due to the CoCo not opening the application not the issuing company.

4 weeks and counting from DCC - pain in the a$$ !!

In fairness, the anticipation of getting up every morning and rushing down to check if it arrived is kinda like Christmas morning all over again :D

Applied in person in Clondalkin on the 23rd of May, licence arrived on the 7th of June.

Seriously hacked off, though. Was replacing a licence that was stolen when our house was burgled. €35 for the replacement, which expires less than a year from now, so I've to dish out another €55 next year for another new one
