Not the nicest post to have to make, but I thought I'd share it here in case any of you guys happen to come across it, or get offered any parts from a suspect source etc.. and as a heads up to other RX8 owners..

Anyway, my Rx8 was stolen at approximately 3am on Saturday morning via what is now the normal route to getting a modern car, by breaking into the house to get the keys. Nothing else was taken, and there was plenty of stuff to be had like laptop, phone etc.., so the car was definitely the sole target of the break in. I would have thought that given the very depressed prices of our 8's on the market at the moment, that my neighbors Audi would have have made a far better proposition; but alas the 8 was what they were after, and according to the Gardi, for parts. There were five or more other cars taken in the Kilcock area that night, so my hopes that I'll come across it abandoned down a country lane with a pair of baldy rear tires is pretty low unfortunately, but in the unlikely event that it just sitting somewhere, I'll leave the details here and maybe another 8 owner may spot it -

    Reg 04D78500
    40k -ish miles
    Black
    Stainless Exhaust
    Petit Racing Short shifter
    Rear tint
USB port in center storage tray (behind gear shift) for mp3.

Defining marks: 2 very small indentations above drivers door from where a locksmith opened the car with the keys inside.
2 inch scratch to the rear of the petrol cap - touched up matt black.
Black side repeater lens covers (not in picture below)

Sickener...I would guess someone wanted an engine. Its not like they are a valuable car anymore and there are plenty of them in breakers for any other parts.Cant really see any other reason for targeting it.

No doubt his insurance will be along to give him a second kick in the nuts when it comes to settlement.

Oh FFS not another car gone. :( Unusual enough one too. Maybe headed for the UK in parts or as a full car? There's be more of a market there.

Bait cars like they've used very successfully in the US of A would be a good start CH. You would catch more of these thieving scumbags if experience elsewhere is anything to go by. The technology to create a bait car is cheaper than ever too. I don't see how it's entrapment anyway. It's just another car, the scum can choose not to steal it.

An idea I had before along these lines would be to offer a "bait car" option to the general public. An option the general public pay most or all of the in car expense for. People are already buying GPS trackers etc so this would be another option. In this case the tracker service would be run by the Gardai or agents of same. When a Garda specific tracker is triggered then they can swing into action, find the car, follow and when safe to do so, shut it down remotely and then catch the scum redhanded. The beauty about this way is that costs are kept low for the state and scum can't tell which car is an "officially" tracked car or not.

All this would be great, though it would involve two things: 1) treating property theft more seriously in this nation and attaching proper custodial sentences to same. 2) The Guards getting more resources and using them and getting their collective finger out.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
