just a quick question, when i use map my ride on spins, the battery dosnt seem to last long enough for me to record the full route i do, leaving me somewhat frustrated. on doing the tour of Louth, the batter died and only recorded my route up to 3 hrs 19mins, i finished the tour in 3hrs 58....anyone have similar problems? or does anyone know if strava is more "battery friendly"

I find Strava ok on I phone 4. I turn off all other apps and so far have had no issues recording 4hr spins. I usually would still have 50% or more battery left. I have not not gone beyond the 4hr mark yet co can't comment on that. I would guess that the battery life on older more heavily used phones may not be as good.

I successfully recorded an over 8h ride last Sunday on my Motorola and there was still plenty of battery life left. Cheap Smurf Phone, very efficient on battery and it is waterproof. Perfect choice as a cycling aid tool (still not as good as a Garmin unit of course).

I use Endomondo (and then export the data of the ride onto Strava). The reason being that I prefer the interface of the endomondo app and it's linked to my Earndit account which I use to donate what I earn for my workouts to charity.

But more importantly to you, Endomondo gives you an option to run on low power mode to reduce battery consumption (endomondo claims it doesn't affect GPS accuracy) so maybe give that a go?

I haven't noticed any difference between battery use between different applications, I'm on Android though. What model is your iPhone? Older phone batteries hold less of a charge over time. Strava on my HTC One uses about 10% per hour with data on and social network/email apps syncing once an hour. If you're on a poor signal area you'll use more battery. It's likely something else happening in the background.

If you have a bit of money laying around you could get a cheap Android phone just for GPS? A good few lads here do that.
