Hey all. I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find or go about finding some unpaid engineering internships. The reason I ask is I graduate with a chemical engineering degree last year and the responses I have received from employers is no experience no thanks. I looked into jobbridge but unfortunately I do not qualify. Anyone know where I would find some sort of internship?

That's all you can do really.

Though I would recommend that if you do find an internship to make sure they actually have some learning objectives for you.

It's too easy for them to take advantage of your willingness and have you doing sh*t work for weeks on end. Remember that you're working for free in exchange for them giving you interesting and relevant experience, so if you're not getting that then you're wasting your time.

In the same boat as mrac. I'm thinking of leaving my unrelated job to focus on my engineering qualifications and even offer voluntary work. Is the key to just apply apply apply and offer free labour? I was reading that it's technically illegal for employers to not pay you for work but the thinking I have behind it, particularly in the engineering industry, that if you pull your weight then surely voluntary labour will lead to a paid wage?
