    Hi ,

I have been looking on setting up a mock car accident scene have watched on YouTube and there are some very good ones that involve the all the emergency services , HSE,fire service etc , I am looking for opinions or pointers where to start on setting up this contacts etc . And would the services have to be paid or would this be voluntary ? I have had two of my close friends killed earlier in year due to bad RTA so would like to make people aware of the real life situation etc , And i am also a volunteer with vol ambulance service

    Thanks in advance

Can you explain a little more? Are you looking to set up a crash followed by emergency services for a video? or are you just looking to set up a scene for an aftermath photo? Probably could get some advice from the RSA.

I'm guessing it's for a staged accident with ES attending and dealing with a live incident for onlookers to see the aftermath.

A good contact might be your local authority road safety officer. Presumably this is for a public event?
These events can be costly to arrange (often talking €000's once all the costs are considered) for the services involved, so the more linked in it is with road safety promotion etc the better chance it has of getting the support from them.

It might be an idea to tie this in with road safety week or similar.

well guys yea i was thinging of haveing this as a public event , like setting it up in a car park with public onlooking etc and getting emergency services to come on scene and deal with as in a real life suation , I have just emailed the rsa so will await a reply , two reasons i want to set this up is first one 2 of my good friends died in a very bad car accident and i would like to make my friends and also young drivers the real life scene and all thats involved , and im also a member of my vol ambulance service so would be good experience watching a real life suation . i would like to tie this in with fundraiseing for some charity ,

As far as I know, bk1991, the services seem to do this every now and again amongst themselves, for training purposes.

I know the river-based rescue groups in my area (Drogheda River Rescue, Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service and Drogheda Coast Guard) are often out in the water training (both alone and with each other). I'm aware water-based training is probably not very expensive though (and I'd imagine a few of them look at it as a hobby and a nice way to pass an hour or two).

However, I believe, also, that the Drogheda Fire Service have two smashed up cars that they train with on their own premises (cutting them up and 'rescuing' each other from them). I believe they tie in with an Ambulance service (not sure if it's always a voluntary unit or if the HSE partake) during some of these, too.

That second one is probably closer to what you're looking for.

If you actually want to organise one in a set location and to highlight a specific cause/charity/etc. then I'd just keep on as you are (contacting people and hoping for the best) but if you just want some photos/video/etc. then I'd say you might be best off just ringing the Garda Press Office and asking if they know of any such upcoming events that you could pop along to with the camera.

If you are living outside of the big cities contact your local Fire Station and ask to speak to the Station Officer. The vast majority of these lads (and ladies of course) are obliging and may be able to work with you.

If you are living in a city you would need to contact the Chief Fire Officer and try to arrange it through his office but as KKV said, the fulltime services generally do a display on this once or twice a year alongside the other blue lights, sometimes involving the RSA and voluntary amb services.

If these agencies run this that will be all your insurance costs taken care of.

One local authority in conjunction with Gardai,HSE etc has/had a programme in place.
