looking forward to Feijao getting back in action...think Thiago Silva is vastly over-rated and is getting ko'd

I'll be interested to see how Erick Silva gets on.
I think he has loads of potential.
He's only lost twice since 2006; one of those losses is a DQ for blows to the back of the head, and the other is a decision to Jon Fitch where he was totally out-grappled.
He's up against Jason High who's got a fairly decent wrestling background. I'll be looking to see if Silva has learned from his loss to Fitch and see if he can avoid being taken down and controlled.
    Should be an interesting one.

Erik Silva was supposed to be fighting John Hathaway so I think Jason High isn't going to be too much of a difficulty for him.

In the case of the other Silva, Thiago, I actually think he's got quite a good chance depending on which Thiago we see. He was a beast of a fighter when he first entered the octagon and he's only lost three times in his career to Machida, Rashad Evans and Gustaffson. Not too bad. However since his back injury he hasn't been the same fighter. If he loses he may be getting his walking papers.

In the main event I think this will be a closer contest than some people would give Big Nog credit for.

Interesting fight ahead , will tell us a lot about where both fighters are at presently. Werdum has obviously become more well rounded since the GP. Nog has gone through a lot since then and along with what he took on board previous it's taking a toll.

Most are predicting a case of Werdum has got better and Nog has declined, but Nog has still shown he's very dangerous, so should be an interesting rematch. its just these days Nog won't be dangerous after absorbing twentey haymakers.

Dam, time really does fly. 06 feels like last year ! Nearly bang on seven years ago, everyone was buzzing for the GP quarter finals.

True, but Silva still has to avoid the wrestling of High. It was his downfall in the Fitch fight.
I'm predicting, and hoping for an impressive ko by Silva.

Wouldn't say Fitch totally out-grappled Silva.
Remember Silva had his back in round 2 and had a rear naked totally locked - had no idea how Fitch escpaed from it.

Big nog looks tempting at 9/4. I know Werdum has improved immensely but he bossed werdum both on the ground and in stand up in Pride.

Plus he's a national hero in Brazil and I can't imagine too many of the crowd behind Werdum.

Have two brazilians ever headlined a ufc card in Brazil before?

    Wand vs Vitor ?

Edit - No, the very highly anticipated Shamrock - Lober rematch was the main event.

Is there anywhere to watch Facebook prelims after they've been aired? I'll be back late tonight and will miss all of them.

It is but if the fight goes past the third Werdum will likely win.

If this fight hits the floor it could be very interesting.

    .

    Why's that ?

    Why's that ?

Big Nog is aging and has taken a fair amount of punishment in his career. Werdum is a fresher fighter.

True, but worry is about the shots he can take at this point, rather than his cardio/ freshness. He has shown signs of life recent and is always in shape. As a Nog fan I'm hoping the fight will see the fourth.

i thought nog had a good chance in this but forgot

That was an unbelievable armbar. It's a submission show! Wonder what the record number of submissions on a ufc card is?

From the triangle to the arm bar with such a smooth transition it was class, this would have to be a contender anyway. Wasn't expecting this many.

    Thiagos striking is sublime

Shocking altogether how Feijao just gave up. He had the beating of Silva for the first couple of minutes and then just stopped and couldn't be arsed anymore. That's pathetic conditioning for a professional athlete.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,970 ✭✭✭Lenin Skynard

Conor McGregor ‏@TheNotoriousMMA 11h UFC is on TONIGHT!!! I'm gonna go with the 2 underdogs, Nogueira and Thiago Silva to WIN works out close to 9/1 on @paddypower!! #CHEE$AAYYY
Looking like a very good bet at the moment.

*Edit: Not to be. Very impressed by Big Nog though.

The UFC should host every event in Brazil. Unreal performances!

I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch between Cigano & Werdum. Won't happen as there's nobody else to fight Cain in the mean time but still, I think a fight v Cain next is a step to far for both guys right now and I'd like to see who wins between them to determine a challenger for Valasqeuz.

incredible the amount of talented fighters in brazil at the moment

It will happen soon because the fight is appealing especially down in Brazil. I think Overeem is a bit closer to a shot if he beats Browne, especially if JDS wins the rubber match.

Not really. he said he'd fight Big Foot @ 205. Which he knows Big Foot could never make. Sure doesn't Big Foot cut down to 265?

Yup. It's impossible for him to cut to 205 with his condition.

"I'll fight him anytime. I trained with him for three years. You can go ask him about the day he's done something to me. He used to get beat up like a little bitch. Send me that big chin of his and he'll see. Fine by me. He talks too much. He's a sucker. I don't like him. Anytime he wants, dude. And for money? Hell yeah. Even for free. Let's do it."

I thought Thiago was going up? Thats what I assumed the thought of big foot going down is crazy if Thiago wants the fight at 205lb its clear he don't want the fight.

I'm one those who just read the headlines after reading the report now
