Frame respray / refurbish

Have searched for previous threads but last I can find seems to be from 2010.

    Long story short...

Had a carbon frame stolen, sanded & resprayed a shocking shade of green by the scrote...
Garda got it back and I've done a lot of work on it to remove paint & clean it up.

Looking for advice re: good frame painters that people know of / have used....

In particular, I think there's a guy in Cork who has done beautiful matt black jobs on a Cervelo and a Dolan aeoleous that I've seen pics of... Any contacts??

    Thanks

    Dave

    >>Bump!<<

There was no replies to this.
    Anyone have any recommendations now?
The paint has started to peel of my aluminium Dedacciai EM2 frame and I want to get it resprayed matt black.
The only place I could find online was this place.
Anybody use it and what were the results like?
I'm based in Waterford but willing to travel.

I don't know if I'm allowed to mention people's names or what but Will Whelan in Kilmallock paints bikes and I'm sure will mail you samples of his work. Know him but haven't seen much of his work. If you want his number let me know and I can PM you.

I just texted him there to ask him that exact question. He used to have an ad up on done deal iirc in the bike section with pics of his work iirc.

Don't know if it's suitable for carbon though. Are there any special requirements for carbon?

You cant powdercoat a carbon frame.

I have had a couple of frames done by Atlantic Boulevard in the UK. About 400 for a basic job. Will Whelan if he is still doing it was doing it around 250. I have seen his work and it is good.

Spins, I meant to say that Tallaght powdercoating did one of our lads frames a couple of years back, it was about 120 euro I think in a metallic black. The finish was nice and lasted a very long time, longer than the original finish did. Note that its only good if you are putting no decals on it or if you are ok with just putting unprotected decals on it and not clearcoating over the frame afterwards.

If you want to do a full restore i.e. where you get new decals etc.. then you are not going to be baking it in an oven like you do with powedercoating, you are going the standard strip, prime, spray, clearcoat route...most of the local car panel beaters can do it. You'd speed things up and make it cheaper if you stripped the paint yourself which on an aluminium frame is easy and cheap to do chemically (for carbon you have to sand it down by hand because the chemicals screw up the resin and thats what costs the money). Anyway, good luck.

    @QuigsSnr Thanks for that info.
It is aluminium and I actually don't want any decals so I'll give them a buzz and see what the story is.
    Thanks again.

    Hijacking the thread.

I ponder upon having my old comfortable steel frame stripped clean, hand polished and clear-coated.

I've read on the internets though, that clear coats do not offer rust protection? Is there such thing as a clear primer I can apply then - either powder or "wet"?
