I did the race experience level 1 in Mondello a few weeks ago. I would recommend it to anyone interested in getting into racing. You do laps in a mazda 3 with an instuctor in the passenger seat and then you do laps in a single seater sheane.

There a few guys on here that are race experince instructors and they will be able to answer all your questions re mondello.

Thnaks for this man, so you get X amount of laps in a mazda3 and X amount in a single seater! Sounds good.....I there a max number of lads you can bring at one time, as we would all like to be on the track togeather.

I'd say that it wouldn't be a problem book all together. I think they have around 10 cars on track per session. I'd ring or e-mail Mondello and ask, you might even get a discount if you book as a group all together. I'd say it wouldn't hurt to ask them anyway.

Which is the one that you get a race license at the end of it? Me and a few friends want to get into racing later in the year.

You have to get the introduction to motorsport pack from motorsports Ireland and then apply for the intro course. It's mostly based in the classroom. After that you need a medical clearance cert stamped by a doctor. Then you can apply for a motorsport racing licence.

The race experience is totally unrelated.

The course for getting racing licence is only worth doing if you want the licence. You get very little track time on this course but a whole load of classroom stuff and no single seater driving at all.
Ive done the driving school a few years back and also the licence course.
Better value to be had in uk though.

I did the race experience level 1 at mondello last week. Like recylebin, I really recommend it. I toyed with the idea of buying a track car last week and I'm seriously considering looking into it again after that.

You start with a short classroom session where safety, flags, and the track are discussed. Then you meet your instructor and do 8 laps in a mazda with him in the passenger seat. After that, you do two warm up laps in the formula sheane and then 10 laps on your tod. Great craic - even if I did have a fairly spectacular spin on my first lap  :o

Will be doing the level 1 race experience in Mondello some time in the next few weeks. My one worry is getting a wet day. Just wondering if anyone has done it in the rain? And if so how did they find it?

Just a word of warning, had and Evo 7 and DC5 Integra and raced them at Mondello. If you are going to the track to race, you need deep pockets. It is one of the most expensive hobbies in the world in my opinion. Anything goes wrong and it is big money. If you start modifying, it is big money.

I have neither cars anymore, couldnt afford to keep them but I would give anything to get back into it.

I did the race experience a few weeks ago. I absolutely loved the single seaters, but having done a few track days in my own car, driving the Mazda 3 was a bit of a non event. I had hoped to do the chequered flag course that they used to do on the international track but they don't seem to offer that any more.

Finally made it out to Mondello at the weekend to do the Level 1 course. And for anyone else thinking of doing it....I couldnt recommend it enough! Found all the staff extremely helpful and the set up at Mondello is very good. The biggest complaint I had was seeing the chequered flag....it felt like I'd only just started when it was time to finish!! The laps really do fly by once you get going. I'd say Im the only person who has looked up buying a race car after doing it!

    Load of rubbish.
    Its class dependent.
You can race an entire season in vees for less than 4k, and that includes entry fees, some testing, tyres and travel.
Sheanes are about the same cost.
And the fiesta class is even cheaper...

4k is cheap, I take it that doesn't include the car or damage/engine failures etc? But anyways would you mind giving more of a detailed breakdown of the costs please, ya got me tempted :p

You can race an entire season in V's for less than 4k.....seriously
How much does a V cost
    How much for a helmet
    How much for a suit
    How much for a licence
Take Bishopscourt for example a week or so ago..
Just say you lived in West Cork, how much to travel to Bishopscourt, how much to stay overnight, how much was the entry fee ?
Motorsport can be managed, but its not cheap...
