my aunt has decided she wants to buy a punto, 06 onward shape, because her old one (99 1.2) has been so good to her!

i've driven a few of them with the old 1.2 engine and thought they were ok.

has anyone got any words of wisdom on these? is the 1.4 engine ok? anything specific to look out for? any questions outside the normal to ask for?

that's nice to know :) yeah the one in the link is 8v, are they a basic enough engine? not known for anything major like?

as in the headlights or dash lights or what? have you had it looked into?

Genuinely haven't heard anything major atall, a surprise to say the least! 75 odd bhp, main problems would be due to neglect but unless it's been seriously abused it won't go too far wrong ;)

on the dash, airbag failure will flash sometimes, other times its break fluid low, when i turn the ignition sometimes the rad needle will go to the red then back and say temp too high

Great car, wish I had the 1.4 myself for a bit of extra ooomph (have the 1.2 5 door). Be weary of the rear doors, make sure they open and close easily because the handles can stick after long periods of non use - also make sure the windows go up and down in the rear since the regulators can seize as well.

Common parts to be replaced are the top mounts, front springs snapping, drop links and plastic dash vent (it tends to lift on the drivers size) but they are all relatively cheap to change / fix. I've had my car now since last September and done 12,000 miles and all I needed to do to the engine was a regular service - bulletproof IMHO.

PS: That's a higher spec model too with fog lights, colour coded mirrors and door handles, alloys and painted dashboard panel. Well wear! :)

Mine does that too, shoots all the way to the top and levels off - does your display actually give you an error?

very informative list there on fiatforum, thank you :) theres a few items there i'l keep an eye out for.

also nice to hear an owners review and that they do actually wear ok as a car :)

spoke to its owner over the phone yesterday, seems sensible, he's owned it since new apparently. going to take a look at it at 6pm, if it checks out we will hopefully do a deal.

Had a look at it anyway, met the owner at his house. The car, as the advert states has 8 months tax and test, one owner from new, service record and is currently half way between services with 4 new tyres fitted at the last one. It was owned by elderly people, so unfortunately the bodywork had a few scuffs and bumps, the most noticeable on the passenger side front wing, but was seemingly a very genuine car all in all. so a price was agreed, deposit given and we pick it up monday.
