I reloaded the laptop with a Dell Vista Home Premium disk and the product key on the bottom of the laptop. Device manager see the wireless nic but I can't get a driver for it. The Acer site has three drivers under wireless, Intel, Broadcom and Atheros. I tried all three but none worked. The Intel driver installed on the computer but didn't enable the nic. The Broadcom and Atheros installers said a relevant nic wasn't detected. Windows update didn't have a driver either.

There's an on/off switch for the nic on the case but this doesn't do anything. Maybe that needs the driver too.

    Any ideas?

Right click the Network Controller item within Other Devices and get the properties
    Details tab, choose HardwareIDs
use vendor and device codes on this site: http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=1408

Cheers, I'll do that now. I did put the hardware ID into Google and it came back with broadcom. So, I tried the broadcom driver from the Acer website again but no joy.

Good site that but it doesn't seem to have the nic listed.

    The hardware ID is:

    PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4315&SUBSYS_E003105B

Edit: Got it here: http://devid.info/kk/36611 :)
