    Hey,

So I've just been shipped to London with work for 6 months and I'm flying home tomorrkw to bring the bike over. I'm living near the Isle of Dogs, a few stops past Canary Wharf. There are barely any segments on Strava.

Wondering if anyone knows of good places to cycle around here or somewhere that I could go on the tube/train at weekends? There are loads of clubs thats its difficult to choose from. Any tips there would be appreciated also :).

    Thanks

    Hey

    Used to live there...

Try Richmond park for starters, loads of clubs ride there at weekend.

My old club, London dynamo are huge.
Have loads of rides at weekend doing circuits in RP & beautiful rides out to Surrey hills (Olympic games RR & TT course)

Best way to learn those routes is with a club for sure...

Also if it's easier to go east for you - east London velo club are great too. They ride up Essex way which despite its reputation is again beautiful to ride a bike around!!

    Good luck

Ill try and head out next wknd or the one after. Did u used to cycle to Richmond park or get the train? Just wondering as its over an hour cycle from Iisle of Dogs and I would be quite hesitant in London traffic!

The Greenwich foot tunnel is a much more pleasant way to get out isle of dogs than any of the main roads

When I lived in London I quickly realised how lucky we are in Ireland! Theres only so much Richmond Park one can take!

Im also moving to London on Tuesday and have been researching cycle clubs and routes for the past few months without much luck. Lots of weekend rides but not much happening during the week.

Cycling around Ireland in September and London is going to be my training ground. Keep us updated if you find anything and maybe we could meet up if your keen, much more fun getting lost in traffic with 2 people.:)

The club in Dulwich is good and good climbs around Crystal Palace and very handy for open countryside of Kent and the Downs....very popular with cyclists

    Hi Ciaran,

Sounds like a plan. Where will you be living in London?

Thanks for that MPFG. I got an email from Dynamo and they said to try Dulich as it would be closer to me. Will email them in the morning and post what they said.

One last thing ...the Cadence Performance Centre in Crystal Palace is a little mecca for cyclists in South London ( worth a cycle to, the Dulwich club are always there) ...sell all the equipment and they do a range of performance testing (VO2 max, etc) and sell nice cakes !

I met a guy there a few weeks ago that rode the Tour de France ...he was australian/kiwi in his 40's but I didn't know who he was and didn't like to ask

(Wiggo did alot of his training up and down Crystal Palace hils in his youth and its right next door to the velodrome in Herne Hill)

Crystal Palace tourist board should pay me !!!

Will be living in Edmonton in North London. The most regular route I have found is the loop around regents park as I want to do as much early morning and evening cycling as possible. Crystal Palcae sounds good, got to love the hills!!

A great Sat/Sun spin would be to retrace the route used for the Olympic Road Race last year: Putney bridge, through the aforementioned Richmond Park on to Leatherhead and around Box Hill. Expect the latter to be very busy so actually a great place to meet cyclists and get some local info.
