    Hi all,
Just wondering if its worth getting my laptop screen replaced its a Toshiba satellite pro A200. The screen is 15WXGA Trubrite TFT. The laptop is just over 5 years old. I was told the screen is LCD and would be expensive to replace.

I would be grateful for any advice on whether its worth it or any info on cheaper repair shops

You could buy the screen and replace it yourself.

From Ebay - Use Parcel Motel

There are tons of tutorials on Youtube. It's not hard at all.

    Here's more on Ebay UK

What were you quoted to replace the screen? A decent priced outfit would replace it for about €100-€130

It could give your laptop another few years of life, so well worth it considering that imho...

    Hi Allyall
Thanks a million for the advice I will check that out - it doesn't look too hard to do it so if I get one cheap I might give it a go. Thanks again

I replaced mine myself a couple of months ago. Got the screen for 50 quid, was quoted a few hundred in the shop. It isn't too difficult, and the new screen actually has better picture quality.

    Hi unkel,
The repair guy said about 120 I thought that might be expensive cos the laptop is 5 years old but if thats the rate it probably is worth it especially as I dont want to splash out on a new one. I think I'll check out Ebay first and then decide. Thanks a mill for the advice.

The one i linked to is £35 delivered to Parcel Motel (Parcel Motel is free for first 2 uses).
I wasn't sure if you had noticed it.

Average pricing for a screen repair is €100 - €130, depending on the model of screen as older ones are out of production and tend to be more expensive.

You could do it yourself, it's pretty straight forward (Always remove the battery first!).

If you're going down the Ebay route then type in the model number that's written on the back of the screen (sometimes top right on the metal frame at the front) rather than the model of the laptop itself.

Should read something like LTN154AT07, for example.

I'd bring it to a repair shop if I were you. Sure, they're handy enough to replace, but there's a strong possibility that you will be sent the wrong screen, ie an led screen with a converter cable. What you are looking for (I think :)) is an lcd screen which requires a connection for the inverter. Remove the screen before hand and take a look at the back positioning of the inverter cable connection ie bottom left, and then compare that to the screens you see on ebay.
Lcd screens are more expensive too.
Bring it to a shop and save yourself the hastle :D

I understand what you mean - I'm still considering what the best option is would be a waste of money if I got the wrong one which I guess is quite possible thoug there were a few LCD ones on Ebay at very reasonable prices.

So many gobsh!tes on ebay sell the incorrect screen I have given up doing these repairs at this stage, had a few who sent a completely different panel, even though I ordered via the panel model number. Last one I ordered was a LP154WX4, got sent a LP154WX5! And yes it wasn't compatible.. And it will cost you (€12 the last one) to ship them back. €120 is probably a fair bit more than you'd save by doing it yourself, but unfortunately too many idiots on ebay just send out screens "on the off chance" there compatible. If anyone knows of any Irish LCD/LED panel sellers who are trustworthy I would be keen to know :)

All of the above, and add a couple of weeks waiting for your money back, to be left in the same position as you started off.

I've used them before without issue, but not for a screen. Nearly 30000 sales and 99.4% + feedback.

So have I. They're in Belfast so shipping is usually quite quick too.

Have gotten a couple of screen from this seller. Normally well packaged, and quick enough postage. They advise you to contact to verify they send you the correct model.

    £10 shipment to Ireland

I guess you should use Parcelmotel for these. UK shipping is free so would only cost the €3.50 Parcelmotel fee :D

I think they are at 12 Ardeen, Lucan, Co. Dublin-I think you have to go through Ebay though.

    Hey guys,

I recently broke my laptop screen and took it to a city centre repair shop only to be told they couldn't repair it because the screens aren't made anymore.

I only have the laptop 3 years so I'm keen to get it fixed. It's a Acer Aspire 5736Z laptop with a 15.6" HD LCD screen.

Can anyone suggest an alternative place to get a screen / fix it?

Try it yourself, acers remove the 4 corner pads around the screen screws hiding under them, use the cap of a biro to pry apart the cover, screws down the side of screen and connectors on the rear.Try and remove the broken one then order the new one if you feel up to it
