I looked through the last twenty pages of the Motors forum an didn't see any thread title alluding to this so here goes.

Around Dublin (not sure about the rest if the country) I've seen small signs at junctions with a phone number attached looking for NCT failures, used cars, vans jeeps etc. Who would be putting them up and are they legal?

As it happens I am looking to shift a car which is off the road and wouldnt pass the NCT and am wondering what these guys are about basically. Thanks for any replies or advice.

they probaly sell them for scrap or parts or if they are fixable they might do so and put a test on the car to sell it for more money afaik

It is a business but the signs they are putting up are surely illegal. They are sticking their A5 size stickers onto road signs at junctions around Dublin.

So that's where those cars come from - the ones on Donedeal advertised with a claim that it 'will sail through the NCT'

Whoever put them up will be looking at a fine of 150euro per poster/sign.

These are not necessarily all the same dealers , more of a copycat thing it would seem. 140 fine for each poster , if the litter warden can use a phone and a bit of detective work.

Buying NCT failures and scrap cars is not illegal but putting unauthorized signs up which are visible from a public road could land you in trouble with the local authority and/or the NRA.

Whoever put them up has no fixed business address so the Gardai can't serve them with a summons for littering.

It is mostly a travel sort of community and there is big money in scrap it is running between €600 to €700 a tonne,

A lot of these are dodgy companies and nobody should give them any business and yes all these signs and stickers are illegal either report them or take them down yourself.

Another good thing people could do is to keep ringing the numbers on the signs and wreck their heads:D:D:D:D

Don't do this unless you own them or they're on your property. Taking them down and leaving them there is littering, taking them away is theft, or you could be accused of putting them up.
Report them and let the authorities deal with it.

Taking them down and disposing of properly would not be any problem see the litter wardens and council guys pulling them down if they see them.
It wouldn't be theft as your not stealing the litter offense has already been committed.

Those that are driving get exported to Africa in some cases. Vans, jeeps, Japanese or French larger saloon cars mostly, not hatchbacks.
