Travel vaccinations: cost

I've been told by my GP's clinic that it will be a total of €120 to get Hep A, Typhoid & Tetanus together. My countries are: China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. The receptionist also suggested that I may need an injection for Yellow Fever for Cambodia, and an injection for malaria for Malaysia. This is based on my telling her that we'll be staying in hotels. They have to be got 6 weeks before travelling.

I've checked many sites, but I'm not sure what are the essential vaccinations for these four countries, and how much should these cost. Many sites seem to be trying it on, telling you that certain injections are necessary when they're not. I could be wrong but I get the impression that there's a bit of a money-making racket surrounding these vaccinations.

Is there any place where only the necessary vaccinations can be got, and at a reasonable price? And what sort of money would that be? Grma.

For an extensive and involved trip, it may help to visit a travel medical clinic as they will have more expertise and can provide support while you are traveling if anything happens.

The biggest clinic in Ireland seems to be the Tropical Medical Bureau which I've been and had a good experience. Vhi may cover some of the costs of vaccinations if you have private insurance as well.

As for prices, their list is posted online. For Hep A, Typhoid, and Tetanus it is €65 + €20 but that doesn't include the cost of a consultation.

They also have a cool Destinations tool where you pick your destinations and they tell you the latest news and advice on traveling healthy. Of course this should not be used in place of a live consultation since a lot depends on what time of year you are traveling and how much trekking outside of urban area you are doing.

Remember that these vaccinations are quite common and last for years so it is a worthy investment in your health and safety.

My countries are: China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. The receptionist also suggested that I may need an injection for Yellow Fever for Cambodia, and an injection for malaria for Malaysia.

The likes of Cambodia is much more risky than most parts of Malaysia and this will determine your needs. Anti-malarial drugs (rather than an injection) are needed and this would be important in Cambodia. Some of these drugs are expensive. The comment about yellow fever sounds suspect, this is only usually needed if you've been in Africa or South America.

This is meat and drink for the TMB, your regular doctor is less familiar with the details and his receptionist is winging it.
While some sites might be "trying it on", they cannot say that you absolutely don't need something, as then if you get the pox concerned you could claim they misadvised you. It is a question of probability.

This is a better website for medical information. My GP refers to it when I hit him for a vaccine for some new destination!

Some of the destination information on TMB is very out of date and it's obviously in their interest to sell you more vaccines.

This site might also be useful for impartial advice it's run by the NHS http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations.aspx

Not having a go at you OP but it always amazes me how people will spend well over a grand on flights for their holidays and then quibble about the price or take a chance on medication that could affect their lives for years afterwards.

Prior to visiting Cambodia, I saw Dr. Simon Collins (link below), primarily as he was cheaper than the Tropical Medical Bureau.

According to his site, Yellow Fever is not a requirement nor even suggested as an optional safeguard.

I was really impressed with him - he took a considerable amount of time with his consult, was very thorough and let it be known he was contactable should the need arise while I was away. He had an easy manner too, which I find preferable when being jabbed or poked by a relative stranger. :D

I picked up Doxycycline at the medical centre in Changi airport btw, you may be able to do something similar at your point of entry.

In 1990 I took yellow fever to go to west Africa .The vaccine made me real sick so much so that I had to cut short the trip from two months to only one month
Later in 1999 I was doing work where sometimes sewage pipes would break so thought that getting a suitable tetanus vaccine might be good idea . I took the first vaccine and got sick for a few weeks lost that job so didn't bother getting the second vaccine shot .
Then in 2007 my Mother got her annual Vaccine shot got sick caught Gillan Barre and died fairly young at ~72 and doctors refused to supply any reason why she died they claimed they had no idea why

Then I discovered on the net that VACCINES CAN KILL YOU and worse sometime disable you for life

After much research into the subject since them I now know that many doctors know full well that vaccines can kill you and many doctors under pressure from the big pharma shut their mouths and just often chose not to take vaccines them self's

Then in 2009 the untested Flu vaccine injured for life many Irish children with sleep deprivation conditioning that costs thousands each month in drugs to keep the kids sorta awake . That,s not counting the stuff the doctors haven't told us
me take a vaccine again not a chance

Modern kids now 1 in 65 can have autism where a hundred years ago it was rare at most 1 kid in 2500 could have this problem
Before vaccines cancer in kids was rarer than hen teeth but with the modern standard ~60 vaccines before 3 years old and these modern children are getting deadly cancers by the thousands

In the modern 1990 era the USA sent 1,000,000 troops to the Iraq region commonly called gulf war 1. All the soldiers took various vaccines . In 2010 20,000 have died from the problems of vaccines . 200,000 are now disabled on disability pensions and the majority are young 45 year old .Another 100,000 troops are in the pipe line to get disability pensions
The war itself killed some 200 troops
The vaccines killed some 10 times more
the war injured some 500 troops
the vaccines permanently disabled more than 20 times as many troops

These disabilities are often multiple heart attacks from 35 years old onwards and Gillan barre total or near total paralyzed injury
Thats the injuries young fit 20 year old got within 15 years turning them into 80 year old types when they are only 40 years old

So will I take a vaccine again no way

However it is your ass on the line if the bug kills you in few months or the vaccine kills you in ten years with some nasty cancer sorta rock and hard place stuff

me I will risk the bug anytime

others will have to make up their own mind is the Large pharma really telling the truth vaccines are safe when you find out the majority of the doctors who say that haven't a clue they never studied the subject and the few who did research it shut their gob or risk losing their jobs

If you looking for info on vaccine risks from non vaccine selling sites try sites like http://www.jabs.org.uk/ or http://naturalnews.com/

At least know the mix that is in vaccines toxic mercury weird animal RNA DNA and animal diseases, toxic Aluminum , toxic
oil like sqaulene oil, toxic Formaldehyde and other toxic agents

Good luck with your travels I always travel with a water cleaning agent called MMS miricale mineral solution.

    http://www.miraclemineral.org/

(wiki link will naturally be anti the MMS soltion as the large phara are losing fortune not selling their toxic malaria products as MMS is dirt cheap so they try hard to bad mouth it )
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_Mineral_Supplement

What I dont get is the Big pharma sell MMS to town water supply to clean the water and yet they say after 100 years use it safe to put in water you drink every day .then speaking from the other side of their mouths if the stuff is bottle and you drink it they say its lethal . I take it all the time never gives me any problems and so do may Irish who hang out in www.tnsradio.nig.com. I have seen remarkable recoveries of injuries skin conditions and burns from the users who use this MMS stuff .For me I have noticed a drop in the severity of the flu and cold virus attacks.
However as it says on the bottle its water purifying agent and makes no claims to be medicine any medical effects might be imaginary coincidental and always consult your doctor before experimenting with things like MMS but me i don't read these warning labels half the food we eat is more toxic than any MMS which comes free in the water supply in many countries anyway

Its cheap stuff basically it is chlorine di Oxide a stuff they put into water in the towns water supply to sterilize the water . MMS kills many bugs that come from water and this MMS stuff kills the bugs in water deader than a hammer .
I Never go anywhere in Africa without it . Many also claim this product will stop malaria cant say for sure last time I had malaria was when i was kid in Africa . For Africa trips that's the only stuff I will use to defend against the malaria as the malaria tablets are so toxic you cant use then for more than 6 weeks

Good luck with your travels dipping the wick inn the wrong whore house is more likely to kill you than anything else so wearing a all over your body rubber suit is probably superior to MMS or vaccines solutions
