immersion empty after airlock?

I had an airlock in the plumbing after draining the cold water, and it should be fixed now - I do have cold running water everywhere now.

But I'm afraid that the immersion hasn't filled. If I run the hot tap, there's plenty of water coming out, but I can't hear water running into the tank. If I tap it, it makes a hollow noise. Am I just paranoid? I'm afraid to turn it on, in case I burn out the eh heater element, in case I have to replace which I can't afford to do.

How do you know there's water in the immersion?

if theres water coming out of your hot tap theres water in the cylinder.
has to pass through the cylinder
