    Golf GTI: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/5053318

It ticks two of the main boxes I want, leather and DSG. I haven't viewed it or had it checked by a mechanic yet but assuming it's clean, does it seem a bit steep at €7,500? There's another DSG one on sale, same year and mileage but no leather, for €1,500 less. It's hard to get a sense of a fair price as there are a lot of dreamland prices advertised out there. Any opinions?

Looks a fair price to me - Xenons, Leather, DSG and FSH. Just make sure the DSG oil change was done by someone who knows what there at. BTW great car, I have one and love the DSG.

I'd remove the Xenons straight away as they will look crap due to the standard halogen reflectors.

double check history and current condition, and i'd say you could buy for 6900-7000 maybe?

Nice example love them in pink(red)

Try and get it for under 7 and make it clear you aren't a chancer to the seller as it looks well minded.

But at the end of the day its an almost 9 year old car so don't pay more than 7 IMO

Also dont cheap out and not do a background check mechanical inspection fault code reader check

All if needs now is black wheels !

3 door, DSG box, leather heated seats and low mileage will always be desirable on a car like that and inevitably be reflected in the price. In any asking price though there is always room for haggling.

    Nice looking motor that.

I don't think they are genuine wheels on that one linked above. No xenon's..just hid's i'd say.

There seems to be a lot of gti's coming up for sale lately might be worth looking at a few of them.

Personal thing but any genuinely sporty car shouldn't have leather seats. Alcantara is so much better.

I remember doing a track day in an Alfa with leather upholstery years ago - my arse was sliding around. Not good.

To be fair that can be down to the design of the seat and support it offers over the seat upholstery itself. Bucket seats with good bolsters will offer better support for this.

It was the material bazz. Cotton on leather. Nowt to do with the design or relative size of the seat or my rear either :D

Tartan cloth seats are a must in the GTI imo, much cooler than plain leather seats and after having leather in my last car, much more comfortable too.

The tartan seats are horrible, and the material isn't great. Also with the Tartan, all of the interior plastics are black which makes for a very dark and bleak cabin, IMO.

The plastics are exactly the same colour whether you have tartan or leather... unless you have the short-lived cream leather, like in this particular car?

The new MK7 GTI has the best of both worlds IMO (as an option of course!). Tartan centers with leather/alcantara bolsters and headrests, a bit like the Edition 30 seats.

The foglight grills on that car are from the Golf GT. Not GTI grills. That's strange. Could be a mod, but more likely a crash repair IMO!
The wheels don't appear to be OEM and are missing the centre caps and wheel nut covers.
Other than that it does look clean, but that cream leather is not my cuppa at all and you also lose the lovely black headlining with that colour leather too. Horses for courses.

Also, looks like one of the air vents in the back is broken, notice the lack of a silver handle on the left vent:

That's very common. Probably kicked by an awkward passenger! Easily & cheaply fixed.

Going by the average, price is actually about right. You should be able to get it for €7k.

The Tartan seats are class, a real throw back to the original GTI and really set it apart from other cars with plain seats. I also think cloth suit a hot hatch better.

I had cream leather in my last car and I would probably avoid it again in future (cream anyway), its very difficult to keep clean and ages badly and I find cloth seats more comfortable.

I'd say it's overpriced by about a grand. Eight years old, several details wrong or suspect. Mileage also seems a little low for a car you'd love to be out in all day every day.

Golf's and especially GTI's hold their value very well even pushing on 10 years compared to most cars and especially other petrol cars (nowadays). I would say around 7k would be fair enough if the mileage is genuine.

Not saying this one in particular doesn't have a few question marks but just look at the prices for GTI's in general they are always on the high side.

I would look into it but the mileage is not too out of line for a car that will leave you with a very light pocket if you are doing a lot of mileage in it. Mine is a 06 and has just hit 92k kms/57k miles so 70k on a 2005 would be comparable.

The r32 lower grilles are a very common upgrade, I wouldnt let that put me off, I don't know if the monzas are genuine or not. Looks like a very good price for that car. They only fell below the 10k mark last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭ShaunieVW

Yep you are right. Looking at this on the phone. The gt grill still looks better than the gti one Imo so it is possible that the owner preferred them.

    The NCT expires June 2013.

Someone selling their car on the month their NCT expires smacks of dodge to me. If you do intend to buy it, have it on condition that the car passes it's NCT.

Thanks folks for all of the input and I know it's quite late but I thought I'd update on this. Just back from closing the deal - I'm now the proud owner of a spanky GTI :D:D:D

Cartell check was ok so I went and viewed it last night. Clean as a whistle on the outside. Had it checked out by a mechanic today (A&M Gearboxes on James St D8 - no affiliation but can't recommend highly enough). All clean mechanically and structurally and the computer showed no faults. 2 minor issues which we took into account in the price, which I'm also happy with. Stuck in work but can't wait to bring her out for a blast later on! I'll post up some pics later if anyone is interested.

    Thanks again!
