I know the PC is approx 5 year old but its perfect apart Power thing on the board. - AS per my IT lad.

    oh motherboard number is

    W26361-W1622-X-03

I have googled but cant fiind anything, but i dont know the right places to look. If anyone can set me right or if the mod agrees post a link.

Looks like a BTX motherboard. So it's not the mainstream standard. Most are ATX. I only see a broken one on ebay.

You could possibly use another OEM's motherboard of the same era, like Dell. However, it would probably still need a windows reinstall.

I think that you'd be better off getting a new one. If it's just for basic work, it can be done quite cheaply.
You could salvage everything that you already have and just get a new motherboard and case, although this would be more trouble than it's worth as even the cheapest processors of today are probably faster than what you have.

Edit: "Power thing"? Are you sure that it's the motherboard?

The power thing is a blue sphere thing soldered onto the board.

    So what do you recommend?

A transformer maybe? Or a bad capacitor which, if degraded enough, could become spherical.

While you might be able to get away with using a Dell motherboard, it might end up not fitting to the case if you are lucky to find one that's compatible. You'd be looking for a socket 775 motherboard - but only a later one will do. It looks like your PC was designed for the newer Core 2 Duos which used less power than the older Pentiums. That among other reasons would be why older motherboards would be incompatible. Plus Intel just likes people to have to upgrade their whole system every time they want an upgrade and so regularly update their sockets.

My recommendation would be to get a new system. Your demands aren't too high, I assume? Do you need much hard drive storage space?

Here's one possible build. Includes them building it for you, although you still need to install windows. Could probably shave an extra €50 off of it if I pushed, although quality of components would degrade.
