I was watching In A Mirror, Darkly on YT [thought it was shiite myself] and remembered how that turd of a show totally fecked up the timeline!.....and lets not discuss the movie reboot debacle

They had the old 60's Enterprise that supposedly was more advanced and 100 years ahead of the Archer Enterprise....and i was ike, WTF

They really fecked up the ST universe with that crap, having a ship 100 years before the first Enterprise looking way more modern.

    Rant over.

Archer's Enterprise didn't have any shields. Nor did they have a tractor beam - the best they could do was a grapler hook. Also the transporter wasn't sufficiently advanced to safely transport humans - it could only be used for logistical purposes (transporting frieght). And Archer's Enterprise could only achieve Warp 1 at best. Kirk's enterprise could go much faster.

    warp 4 or 5 actually.

OK, my bad. But my other points still stand. Archer's enterprise was pretty prehistoric comapred to Kirk's.

They explain this in the books actually.

Apparently, some time between Archer and Kirk, the romulans developed technology to hack into starfleet ships and read all their data. So they decided to go back to a less advanced style of computation and a less advanced look to stop the romulans from being able to read all the data.

Isn't that the same reason that was used why the Battlestar Galactica ships were not super advanced because the Cylons could hack it??

That was the reason the Galactica was the only Battlestar
    (yes, I know two survived)
    that survived the initial attack.

It was the process of being converted into a museum in the first episode.

Sure is, it was the last Battlestar not connected to the main Caprica network so it couldnt be crippled by the Cylon attack.

back on topic, so what? the 60's Trek had cheap sets and was working within the confines of the technology available at the time, same as Star Wars, everything in the prequels looks more advanced than the original trilogy even though its 30 odd years before.

as for the new movies, do you seriously think they'd make a 200 million dollar blockbuster with less advanced looking ships than a series from 50 years ago? I thought they did a great job rebooting the franchise myself, the Enterprise looks like its an actual working ship, especially the engineering parts looking like a factory (not sure why there'd be concrete floors on a starship but what do I know :pac: )
