Cat on the Side of the Road

    Hi all,

I got up @ 4.30 this Morning and went off at 4:45 for a 10 mile run about 2 miles into the Run on the Curraheen Road just before the Turn off to go down to CIT @ around 5:17, i saw a cut on the road by the foot path, i stop to see if he was dead or not so as i got close he put his head up, so i gave him a little push to see can he move, the started to Cry and make a nose that they make when they would attack you, so i backed off,

i was around 5 minutes looking around and waiting for an car's no one in sight, to top it all off i had no Credit in my phone. so i rang 999 ask them to put me onto Togher Station, i told them that i am sorry for contacting them but i had no credit and i came across a cat that was badly injured and i would like to know if you could ring a vet to come out, they told me they couldn't really do anything and that they couldn't pay for a vet, so i told them so will i just leave him here so as I'm afraid that a car will just roll over him, in the end
they told me they get a car to check it out, that i could leave now, i couldn't just leave him their and see that a car would have rolled over him only for the fact i step out and the car had to go around, so i just pick him up by the tail and placed him down onto the side of a wall.

So, if any one from Cork around that area that still see the cat lying their maybe if you could take him in. Would do you ring in those issues ? Some how i would image the Cops have better things to be dealing with.. the lest thing the person could have done was Ring the Dogs home to have them come out and pick up the animal.

Whilst I think its great that you stopped and wanted to help the cat, I also find it a bit upsetting that you say you picked him up by the tail and moved him! This would have caused him an awful lot of pain, I'm actually not sure if you are serious. It would have been best to pick him up properly, supporting his full weight.
Could you not have bought him home with you and called a vet from there? Or moved him gently then ran home and called the emergency vet?

I don't mean to be harsh but the thought of the poor cat lying there dying a slow death is very distressing.

Yes the Animal was in alot of pain, for me to full Support his Weight i would have had to hold him from the back and the top, with the cat showing aggressive behavior when i went any where near him that was out of the question.. Plus if he Scratched me or took a bite out of me, i don't have 80 euros to go to the A & E.
plus i didn't know if it was a pet or wild cat.

Seen that i was out Running i didn't have a car. plus seen that it was 5 am in the Morning, i would image that the Vets are closed.

If i did not move him he would be paint job for the road.. the only way i could have move him with my Bare hands with no protection was by the tail.

As i said i rang the cops asking them can they do anything, they told me they really couldn't do much, the person said they get a car out to have a look, it done all that i could at the point in time.. while i just stop to help you can be sure some people just walked by.. and still walk by if he is still their

Where you moved the cat is it visible to people walking/driving along that road? I have no transport otherwise I would go up myself to help. I just hope by now someone has spotted the poor we thing and gotten it the help it needs.

You should get onto some of the local animal rescues in cork, they might have a volunteer in the area who can go and check it out.
