I currently have a permanent job in a public sector lab in Dublin and I've recently been offered a job interview with a private sector company for a similar permanent position at home in Limerick. I'm currently weighing up the pros and cons of accepting this.

The pros are that the job in Limerick is close to home, the money is better and the promotion opportunities are much better also. Where I am now I'd need a Masters to have any chance of promotion. The cons however are that the job security isn't nearly as good and I would have to endure the stifling bureaucracy of a private sector lab again.

I'm just wondering should I play it safe and stay where I am or take a big risk and move back home? Personally I think in the current ****e climate it's better to stay where I am but I'd like some advice and opinions on what to do:)

You only have an interview at the minute, so there's no guarantee of anything. I would attend the interview and at least give yourself the chance to get a job offer from this other position.

It all depends on your personal circumstances. Obviously you need to see if the reduced security of this "better" job is worth it for you, and if you want to move out from the capital in the longer term. A bit of research should give you an idea of the stability of the firm too.

Ultimately, it is a risk. But go for the interview anyway and see how you fare.
