Helmet padding

I've lost bits of the padding that stick to velcro glued on the inside of the helmet. It's a pain (literally).

I don't need a whole new helmet. Can anyone recommend a cheap alternative material I can replace them with (needs to stick well to velcro)?

You can buy replacement padding kits for various helmet types/Brands in CRC etc.

I wear a cycling cap in my old helmet that I have worn out the padding in.

Is the certified padding not there as part of the certified protection system ?

Doubt the helmet manufacturer would be liable for the performance of the helmet in the event of an accident if the original padding is worn out or tampered with.

Doubt the safety rating / pass for the helmet would apply.

just buy a strip of velcro and stitch on a bit of padding not a whole lot to it.

No, the bits of padding the sit between the polystyrene shell and your head are not part of the protection system, they are there to make the helmet comfortable to wear and feel less like a lump of polystyrene stuffed on your head. Any safety that a helmet offers is supposed to come primarily from the polystyrene itself (plus whatever sub-structure some manufacturers build into the polystyrene).
