best base for gravel path

I've dug out a pathway for which I have 14mm buff stone chippings. I have laid edging stones. I now have 2-3 inches of a drop from top of edging to soil. Wondering if I should lay mypex and then chippings? Or sandy gravel - want the chippings to bed down. Any thoughts?

I would go with mypex, should be weed free then
