Well I am going into 4th year mechanical this year coming and ideas for a fyp have been few and far between if I am honest. I am on college work experience with a company at the moment and they gave me a project, but I am not 100% gone on it,mainly i feel some aspects are not feasible. I am just wondering from people here who gone throught it all what makes a good project? I know hard work & commitment are essential

What are you interested in? Being honest if you have an interest in it, it will make it alloy easier. Also picking a good supervising who will support you is a must. Any questions let me know.

Agree that both project and supervisor are important. OP, you should find something that interests you and try see if you can do a project around that. If you need help finding a topic in that area find one of the college's lecturers who specialises in the area and figure out a project.

I had little choice for degree project as pretty much had a list and put which we wanted but they were fairly run of the mill projects. Also my supervisor was average, got on better with supervisors of other projects.

Was different in my masters, I had a subject I wanted to look at and do dissertation on, talked to the lecturers and got sorted with a title I liked and a supervisor who was great to work with. Made a big difference. Nailed the dissertation also so was worth it.
