Is it possible to change your flight to a different airport?

I know this sounds quite ridiculous but I'm going to remain optimistic because I *need* to figure this out.

I'm going to Germany soon and will be flying from Dublin into Munich airport, however I also booked my return flight (which I probably shouldn't have done) from Munich back to Dublin in August. However, I'll be working in Germany and will be up in the North until the 10th of august, and silly me booked my flight for the 11th of august (thinking it couldn't take THAT long to travel back to the South...:o) Anyway, I checked and it's going to take about 13/14 hours to get back down to Munich and I'm not sure I'll be able to do that as I'm only finished working on the 10th. I thought perhaps if I got my return flight from Hamburg airport it would be a lot easier for me because it's not that far from where I'll be. What should I do? I could book my flight for a day or 2 later but will that cost me anything?

It is impossible to say on the information provided. You'll need to read the rules on the fare you've booked. If it is a cheap fare then it will certainly cost to change it.

Try the airlines 'manage your booking' feature online, most will allow you to see how much it will cost to change something before you proceed.

Not sure how you are getting 13/14 hours to get back to Munich. There are flights every hour that will get you there, even more frequent during peak hours. Only takes just over 1 hour.

Yeah plus you can take the InterCity Express high-speed train which might be an option too. You could even drive it in less time than the 13/14hrs especially on the autobahn.

I only did a quick search on google maps and it said that. By train, of course.. how much would the flight cost do you know?

I'm thinking of buying an interrailing pass for Germany as I have a few days of traveling in between my work so I thought it would be useful for my last day to get to Munich. How often do the trains go, does anyone know? And also do they go at night too? I'm sure I'll have to leave midday on the 10th so it will probably be an overnight trip to Munich airport.

Between €110 and €300 depending on date/time. Peak times will be expensive, especially the closer you get to the date. But it often works out cheaper than getting the ICE from HAM to MUC.

Would it work out cheaper to buy an interrail pass for Germany, as I'll be doing a small bit of traveling anyway so will be taking trains to get around, and I could use my last day to get back to Munich? An 8 day pass (within a month) is €218.

Trains are fairly expensive within Germany, so it wouldn't take many trips to work up €218 worth of travel. It costs me €150 for a return trip to Hamburg-Berlin on the ICE, and a single ICE trip from Hamburg to Munich costs €140. It takes about 6 hours to travel from HAM-MUC and the ICE is very comfortable. You could do an overnight IC train for around the same price and it takes 10-12 hours.

Flights are very regular and well serviced. And thanks to German efficiency they are usually on time. airberlin or Lufthansa are usually very cheap on the regional routes. I would say if you book now you would probably get them for under €100. And if you go with lufthansa you will even get a complimentary toblerone inflight!! :)

I've to wait until Monday before I decide how I'm going to go about this so I'll have a good think about it and search flights and trains! The thing is I'm wondering would the interrail pass be more worthwhile because during my week or so of traveling I'll probably be going to a few different states in Germany, which means more trains. Like I won't be getting one straight from Munich to the North and back again? What do you think? Also does the interrail pass allow me to go on any of the trains including the ICE or just a select few?
