Did you Know?? Single farm payment and forestry?

Since 2008 any farmer whom planted his land and availed of the forest premium which is quite generous subject to species planted in the region of 200 euro per acre.
Much to my surprise I have learned that the land afforested if covered by a SFP the farmer is also allowed to keep the SFP/acre together with the forest premium.
There was arguments and much debate on this issue in that it was a double subsidy, however, the department of agriculture have accepted forestry as an alternative farming land use similar to sheep, beef, dairy and tillage enterprises.

NOW HERE IS THE "CATCH 22":
I have asked very learned people in the representative "farming bodies"

Where does forestry land declared in ones SPS form for 2010 to 2013 and not in receipt of forest premium or SFP will this land be admitted in the new CAP payment system having being so declared in the reference years?

This is a question that has been put down in the European Parliament for decision upon within the next 6 weeks!!

Please discuss and if any reader has contributions to make please submit and particularly if you are a farmer that planted any part of your land prior to August 1992!!

Thanks looking forward to your discussion.

Farming forestry is equally as important as cereal growing as a land use. 16 votes

but the day you planted you basically stacked your entitlement, you didnt have to do this for the first three years but on year 4 you had to stack entitlement to claim your full SFP with the same land base. I can't see anyone including forestry in the new system as its already in a forestry scheme so I presume its a shut case

Got your point Bob but the Irish department of Agriculture have already dyed the water on this issue by allowing land in receipt of SFP planted post 2008 to receive the forest premium parallel and there is no limitation on this.
And the question remains.....Where does forestry stand post 2014 that is receipt of no subsidies and has a carbon sequestration value of approx 300 euro/acre which has been robbed by the state to underpin abusers like cement Ltd. and methane producing animals? :)

but its still getting a forestry premium? just to knock your last point on the head it has being found that ac of intensive grass is just as high a carbon sequestration value as forestry

When you planted post 2008 you had to leave a certain percentage of your land unplanted i think 10%.Then you stacked your entitlements on to this land so in theory you were not claiming sfp on your forestry land only on land you did not plant. I thought the same and was going to plant rest of land but ag advisor told me to wait and see as cannot stack new entitlements so if eu decide its a double payment would get caught but if not double payment will be mounding alot of land.

gud question pakie,i planted in 07 consolidated my sfp into the rest of my land and am getting the forestry premiums every year. so i put my land into a alternative land use ie forestry which the dept says is acceptable so yes i think that land is fully entitled to a sfp per hectare that is afforested

I planted in1995 I don't think il get any SPF on it 2more premiums. That is it don't think il get any money for carbon value,,,,just put in for felling licence, big forms to fill forest service big writing criminal offence to cut any tree until licence is granted and gardisiocana let me know cannot cut for 21 days after Garda barracks receives notice of licence granted ,,,what a country to live in 3months waiting now. Think the saw will soon come out ,,chance a bit of firewood,,,
