Just got an email about this, and wondering is any one Doing this on the 27 July, it would be a nice day and its 2 weeks after the ROK, but to be truthful 150 euros is a lot of money to be asking for a 100 K cycle.
Adi Roche needs a reality check, it would be better if she asked for 50 euros or even 45 like normal Cycle tours ask for. and add in a 160 k and ask for 60 euros off them,
This sponsored cycle takes place in Cork this summer, Saturday 27 July.
n Option of a 50km or 100km circular route in aid of Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children International

n We are asking for minimum sponsorship of €150 per cyclist to cover costs and allow us to fund our Medical Programmes. However, we know times are tough so whatever you can raise, big or small, will make a real difference

n Red FM will be live from our cycle on the day. Food and refreshments provided along the way and to wrap up we plan to hold a FREE BBQ with entertainment for all participants (and their friends and family!). Why not add this event to your summer calendar
    Route Details
    100KM route
    Bishopstown to Dripsey
    Dripsey to Macroom (avoiding town)
    Macroom to Bandon
    Bandon to Bishopstown

    50KM route
    Bishopstown to Dripsey

    Dripsey to Bishopstown

there is a history. the chernobyl childrens charity cycle used to be cork to Galway over 2 days. Operated primarily from Pfizer Ringaskiddy and financially supported by Pfizer Ringaskiddy in addition to support by other companes such as EMC etc.

each participant then raised 300 euro for the 2 days, however for that, support was provided, and accommodation as well as transport back to cork from galway.

for 2013 the main driver of the event switched the event to the cradle cycle , that I think also goes cork to galway, with the same suporting companies, ( except pfizer).

typically it was 300 cyclists donating 300 euro with costs covered by companies.

SO the Chernobyl childrens charity suddenly had a major fundraiser pulled. I guess this is the replacement effort.

Spot on, from a friend who has previously done the Chernobyl cycle and is like myself doing the Cradle cycle next week there is a bit of history regarding these 2 cycles. And without going into any detail there is no love lost between the organisers of the said cycles.

Yes i used to do the Cork to Galway before.

and it was a nice week end away, fair enough that a major financial support gone, not going into how hard it seems to get on with Roche.

But their 150 euro for a one day 100km or 50 km cycle is a bit much, they could have done what Cope did 25 Euro a bike and that was a great day out i felt.

they could have charge 50 euro for a Jersey and then maybe 10 euro for the BBQ some people might not want to stay around,

they could have 4 different times 8:30 for the 160 km 9:00 for the 100 9:30 for the 50 and had a family trip of 15 km for 10 euro each for the little Kiddies..

its not Rock Science. but once again this "Charity" is showing their colors.

The email pasted there seems to say what ever you can raise will help! does that mean 150 isn't hard and fast amount? what is the real entry? I raised a lot of money a few years ago and really cant go asking my friends again.

The Email Stated "minimum sponsorship of €150" So what ever you can Raise means at lest have 150 in the card or don't show up..

Look it says minimum of 150, so if you wish you can do it and show up with 60 euro and let us know how you get on, Or you could Email them and ask them can you sign up and only give 60 euro

    Registration

This is one of CCIs biggest annual fundraising events and funds raised will go towards our Medical Programme, including life saving child cardiac surgeries.

A registration fee of €30 must be paid pre event and we ask that you try to raise a minimum of €150 to participate in the cycle (€150 in total, €30 for registration and €120 to raise). All registered participants will receive a commemorative Jersey & Certificate of Completion.
Once you register you will receive a Chernobyl Children International Sponsorship Card.

Im not suggesting turn up with 60 but be a shame if people turn up wit 100 and are turned away.

Registration fee of €30 and each participant is being asked raise €120 for Chernobyl Children (optional). Offical sponsorship cards will be posted once you sign up to help you reach this target or your own!!

Anyone doing this? Can I not just pay the 30 quid or is there a minimum amount required?

They have changed their wording! originally they said it was 150 per cyclist minimum! obviously too many people said it was too much. they have the optional in brackets now

I'll give them 30 notes and not a penny more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭elnino23

I won't be going after they made such a fuss about it before and have now changed it! I did the live your life cycle one yesterday and it was the best sportive I've ever done and 35 notes was very good value, id have paid more and will donate to their Charity because of what a good job they did.

Emailed them last week saying I'd do it but I'd not be able to raise the total due to tapping everyone for the ROK. They said that the minimum expected is the registration fee, and anything over that would be great.
They've definitely frightened a lot of people off with the €150 thing though.

Just came across this thread while searching for cycle info. I am doing this cycle on Saturday with friends of mine and we are looking forward to a good day out. None of us had a problem paying the €30 and we are raising what we can in sponsorship. I don't think they would turn anyone away if you don't have €150 ready and waiting for them. Nobody, charity or not can be turning away money!
