Quick question in relation to applying for membership. I am currently working in practice where I have my own portfolio of clients for whom I am responsible for preparing accounts and tax returns etc. The most important thing here I suppose is that I do not sign off on anything, the firm does and all my work is supervised and reviewed.

Can someone please tell me if I am suppose to tick the box in relation to signing or producing accounts/tax returns which may be relied upon by third parties and include a job description with my application. Any advice would be appreciated.

Your work would seem enough to qualify as sufficient experience - that's the main thing.

I'm surprised there's an option re signing. You cannot sign off (except for pretty much freebies) until you are qualified.

I imagine you should tick the produced only option (which seems to be the case per your post).

    Good luck

Thanks for the reply, however its the same box you tick, it doesnt give the option to just tick for producing. I have contacted ACCA about it and asked for further information. At first when i saw the question it appeared to be a trick to catch people out as you shouldnt be carrying out this work without a practising cert. However i have read elsewhere that you can carry out this work aslong as it is supervised and it can count towards your perf obj. Has anyone working in practice came across this question on the application?

Well ACCA got back to me and told me that the box shouldn't be ticked. It should only be ticked if I was a partner or director in the firm.

So I applied for my membership last night online. Does anyone know what happens next and how long I will be waiting to hear anything back? Thanks in advance for any information.

I think they meet once a month to approve applicants. Takes a couple of weeks after that.
