Getting rid of sky at end of month and am thinking of buying the above mentioned, or anyother freesat box with recording function, further reccomendations appreicated (dont want separate hard disk drive)

Do I need to get a new dish or can the sky dish itself be used?

    Cheers

AFAIK you'll need two cables from your LNB for a twin tuner Humax PVR, but I think your Sky dish will work fine.

Dish will be OK. If you've got Sky+ now with twin feeds from the dish it's a matter of plug and play.

If only a single feed from the dish you'll require a second feed to make full use of the Humax.

Just remember you will not get any Irish channels with just that setup.

Freetime (streaming TV/UK player services) does not work from an Irish IP address so some/most of the shows will be blocked depending on the geo-blocking.

    Otherwise it's a great box.

I recently bought the 1tb version and I'm very happy with it.
I only have a single feed going into it at the moment but I can still view some channels while recording one channel.
See this reply to my thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=84875158&postcount=2

I must get a double feed sorted now the weather is decent so I can have the full set up.

I also bought the 1tb box less than a month ago, have had no problems at all with it, very happy with it

Thank you for the replies folks. I've Sky+ so if its just plug and play then sorted. I've saorview already via the television so that seems to be all bases covered. Gonna have a look at the 1 TB version.

Am in the same boat as you as my sky is up next month...

Have saorview via aerial to each tv so that's sorted and after doing a lot of research i have also chose to go with the humax freesat+ box.

Mainly due to it being the closest thing to the Sky+ box - series link/record etc. and it means not having to have to re-tune settings when a channel moves frequency or deal with external hard drives etc. like i would have to do if i got an ariva combo or similar.

    Hi
Just stumbled across this thread, I was considering the same box. Sick of paying
80 yoyos to sky each month.

Is the station "dave" not FTA? I thought it was.
Also, I gather from the blurb that this box has the same functionality to the sky box. Is this accurate?

    Thanks!

    Dave isn't FTA on satellite.

The Freesat+ receivers have similar functionality to the Sky+ receivers. Do you have a specific function(s) in mind?

    Non PVR version just released
    http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10114

considering you could add a 500GB external drive to this to record for around €50 why would people buy the PVR built in version (like mine) for considerably more? Is the UI, functionality (series linking etc) different with an external record drive? I.e.what are the disadvantages of external vs internal record drives? Always wondered........

It a great Freesat box btw

Series linking and twin tuner recording is only available on true PVRs (with internal HDD).

Looks like a great box, I might invest in one.
What is the difference between the 1000s and 1010s apart from the latter being white?

I think the later models have built in wifi.
