iPhone is disabled

Inputted the incorrect password on my wife's phone a few times and it came up with a 'iPhone is disabled' message. She then tried to put in the correct password after a minute and the message came up again (but with a 5min waiting time). Entered it again but it wouldn't accept it so now it's saying wait 15mins. Password…

Password definitely wasn't changed so why isn't it accepting it?

Connect to a computer with itunes to restore the phone.

Actually switched it off overnight and turned it back on this morning, and that worked. Weird.
