New Beck material on the way

I like the prospect of an acoustic album. I've always preferred Beck when he's at his mellowest, like on Sea Change and One Foot In The Grave, so I'm hoping the acoustic album will be something along those lines.

Sea Change is one of my all-time favourite albums, so I'm excited to hear the acoustic album. I don't suppose it'll be in the same vein as Sea Change, but like you say, Beck is great when he strips it back and it's just his voice and the guitar.

Sea Change is one of my all-time favourites too and definitely my favourite Beck album. I'm not too fond of him when he goes into all-out camp mode, like on Midnite Vultures for example. He can get a bit under the skin sometimes but hopefully he'll avoid that for his other new album.

I really admire Beck's ability to switch it up so easily from album to album and experiment so freely with different sounds. I think he's a pretty immensely talented individual, but I think his talent really does shine the most when he strips it back. I'm interested too to hear what he'll do on the "proper follow-up" to Modern Guilt.

preferred Mutations to Sea Change, which I found a bit over-produced. Beck's always worth a listen, but he's been more hit-&-miss recently than on his first few records which are pretty much flawless.

new single sounds like Animal Collective...

I'd welcome some more acoustic based stuff from Beck. Sea Change is one of my faves too. It's my 'go-to' album for Sunday morning hangovers (of the mellow sort, not the FEAR variety!). I don't think it's perfect, or even near-perfect for that matter, but that's partly why I think it's so great. There's no affected heartbreak- it genuinely sounds like a songwriter struggling to convey an obviously not-very-nice experience from his life. That 70's dry drum sound is da sh!t too and should've been enough in itself to woo back any lady...

Anyways, enough waffle...I'd agree with loyatemu about the new single- not a million miles from Animal Collective. I like it though. I think! I'll listen some more.

Nice retrospective article on Sea Change here:

The production on Sea Change is very lush, but I think it's possibly one of the saddest records I've ever listened to. I love his voice on it. He sounds like he's about 60 years old.

I wonder will the stand-alone singles he's releasing be indicators for what the new album is going to sound like.

love beck, i am sad that he is a scientologist though. anyway prefer his acoustic style though so this should be good.

It's hard to beat listening to Sea Change for those episodes of self-loathing and disgust (usually the morning after a session).

    Nothing else will do!

So I'll join the chorus of hoping his new material is along those lines. Sea Change along with Odelay are my favourite Beck albums.

Anyone else love Mellow Gold but not like anything else by him that much?

I'll give Sea Change a listen after above comments....

Nah, love most of his albums, "Guero", "Modern Guilt", "The Information" and then the classics "Odelay" and "Sea Change"...
