    Hi All,

I am looking at getting a NAS which will basically act like dropbox for me. What I require is the following:

    • Store all my current photos on the NAS
    • Link the NAS to my iPhone to view photos
    • Upload photos direct from iPhone to NAS
    • Have other folders setup like dropbox where I can view/watch/listen to files remotely.

Am I better off just using flickr for photos with their free 1Tb account.

Also, the NAS will be located under the TV in main room so it needs to be fairly quite. I plan on adding all media to NAS and acting remotely via ATV2 (JB XBMC) and playing on TV.

Any suggestions? Budget is around 150 with 1TB drive.

    Thanks

Given your low demands - you don't need RAID backups or anything - what about just getting one of those routers that have USB storage and just connect up an external hard drive?

I know that the higher end linksys ones support it. You'd want to use a plug-in-power HDD as the router might not be able to support USB powered 2.5'' drives.

I know a few of the Linksys routers support hard drive attachments, but they're not exactly cheap.

    Thanks for the reply,

I would also like a torrent client which would rule out the router.

Okay, well in that case, then how about a raspberry pi with an external Hard drive?
Should fit well inside your budget.

FYI: RAID is not a backup! If offers redundancy in the event of a HDD failure.

    It was a throwaway comment.
It's a valid point, but three weeks late to the party!
