I am on my second learner permit (dated jan 11-jan 15) I am hoping to finally get around to taking some lessons, automatic only though so don't think the 12 lessons will be needed...It's not necessary to take them is it since I had my first learner permit before new rules came in?

If you had a learner permit before April 2011, then you are not legally required to do the 12 EDT lessons before you can sit your test. Your learning to drive in a manual car or an automatic one is not relevant. It all boils down to when you had your first learner permit. Getting driving lessons from a trained professional would be highly advisable, but you are not legally required to do so.

However, if you sit/pass your test in an automatic car, you will only get a license that entitles you to drive an automatic car. If you want to get a license to operate manual drive cars, you'll have to pass another test in a manual drive car.

EDT is required regardless of a person taking them in an automatic or a manual. The fact your first LP is dated from Jan 2011 means you don't have to.
