Hey, I have build in mind but am just trying to decide if I should recommend an AMD or Intel CPU. The games you list a fairly old and will have no problem running on just about any modern CPU. Do you play any newer games or are there one that you are likely to start playing?

Shogun 2 and COH2 are relatively new. I wouldnt mind playing a few fps games on the pc, however generally, i play most other games on my xbox. I wouldnt mind semi future proofing it by allowing upgradeability. Something else that is important to me is to have a quiete gaming rig.

AMD win some, Intel win some. AMD generally have better bang for buck though.

Yes Generally AMD offer better performance on CPUs in the €100 range. While intel offer better performance if you can afford to spend more.
However for a gaming PC it's not worth spending extra on the intel if it means you can't afford a good graphics card as the graphics card is the most important part.

I'm going to copy and paste a build from antoehr thread as I think it would be perfect for you

    Cooler Master K350 Midi-Tower mit Sichtfenster, schwarz|€43.67

Ok fair enough, im open to trying AMD. Does this motherboard offer some flexibility to upgrade in the future?

I need a DVD drive, and wifi card as well.

Is there any other towers i can get, not a major fan of the looks of it plus i need something with more usb slots.

How is this for noise level as well?

Any case from this list will work

    DVD

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/S-ATA/44944/LiteOn+iHAS124-19+schwarz+SATA.article

    Wifi card

With the motherboard it will be easy to update the graphics card in the future. I'm unsure if it will be possible to update the CPU. Unfortunately with both Intel and AMD a new CPU often means a new motherboard. You just have to factor in that a new CPU change will probably mean spending an extra €60 for a new motherboard.

As for noise the 212 evo CPU cooler is not loud. I have not used that graphics card so can't say for sure but it should not be loud either.

Also I forgot to say there are 8 USB slots on the back of that motherboard so you probably don't need to worry about the number of usb connections on the case.

    Midi Tower

    Dvd Drive

Is there any Bluetooth add ons. I am thinking of using my apple keyboard. If i use an apple keyboard is this ok or could i run into some problems?

Forgot to include this graphic card:
    http://www.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=66275&agid=1156

    Would it be better?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

That case and dvd is fine.

It's possible to get a wireless apple keyboard working with the right drivers using a bluetooth adapter like this
    http://www.hardwareversand.de/Bluetooth/75755/LogiLink+Mini+Bluetooth+Dongle%2C+V4.0+%2B+DER%2C+Class1+%28100+m%29.article

However you would probably need another keyboard that's windows compatible out of the box to install windows first.

That graphics card would be a little bit better, I had not realised the price had dropped so low on them they sold for more not so long ago.

AMD's next CPUs, Steamroller is expected to keep with the same socket, due for release end of this year/start of next. After that, Excavator, little is known apart from possibly a release late next year. Might even been using DDR4.

I think i might get this keyboard. Do you have any advice on which model is the USA kb layout?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,627 ✭✭✭Fol20

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - Intel/AMD - Is there any other item i could get beside this. They are out of stock, preferably a bit cheaper at the total is at 610 at the moment not including the kb.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

The CPU actually comes with a cooler and you could use that.
I just included the other cooler as I was worried the one that came with they CPU may be too loud.

So you could leave out the cooler master cooler and see if noise levels are ok, replaceing it at a later date if you are unhappy.

Or add this alternative to the build

What does your gut think. will the noise level be fairly loud on the existing cpu?

Any idea about the kb as well.. id like to buy the system tonight.

It depends on the person. At stock settings, it will be a bit loud gaming, but not too bad. A better cooler will allow you to overclock and have a quieter cooler too.
