I hate to be complaining after a long overdue win in Thurles on Sunday but we had a rather blood-boiling saga to deal with prior to the match.

We arrived at Semple at 1:15 and bought tickets at the entrance across from the greyhound track. I was with a friend and his young brother, who couldn't have been more than 10 years old, and we got terrace tickets. My friend indicated his brother's age, understandably expecting not to pay €15 like me and him did.

The person at the ticket office informed us that he would get the concession when we were going through the stile. We thought it was a little unusual but said OK. We went for food in town and returned just after half 2 to make our way into the ground.

My friend explained again about his brother being 9-10 years old (forget which one exactly) but the person at the stile wouldn't give any refund. Friend explained to stile attendant that we would get money back upon entry but still no luck. We went through the stile and spoke to at least three different people to get the discount but, after 20 minutes of reasonable discussion (at no point did we get angry or lose our temper), we gave up.

This might make us appear like cheapskates but surely punters can expect not to have to pay €15 to get a child into a provincial championship game. Even as an adult who is lucky enough to have a job, I wouldn't expect to pay any more than €15 for the terrace. Also, while I know that they have a specific stile for concessions in Croke Park, would it not be simpler just to pay whatever price when purchasing the tickets rather than giving spectators the runaround and sending them from one place to another?

The best excuse they could come up with is that they didn't want children going into the terrace. And some people wonder why there was only 12,000 there on Sunday...

Strange, going back the years I always noted Thurles as being really good at recognising student and OAPs.
It was written on my ticket for the Ardan O Riain stand that "students and oaps can avail of a refund at stile 53".
I would have thought it would be the same for the terrace.

Why didn't you go back to where you bought the ticket and ask for a refund?

Write a letter or send an email to the Munster Council explaining what happened

Refunds were for the stands only. If the Child went to the uncovered stand it was a €5.

There is no discount for children entering the terrace. This is an issue to raise with the GAA as its the same in Limerick on Sunday.

They don't want children in the terrace anymore.

Strange that they didn't know about concessions. It's very much usual practice to have concessions at the stiles, but usually only at one location on the ground.
