    Hi all,

Just wondering has anybody rented a car in Dubrovnik? If it is worth it.
We are staying in an area called Lozica.

    Thanks,
    Keith.

We're going to Dubrovnik in July and I've hired a car for 2 weeks as we're travelling up as far as Split, staying up there for a few days, visiting a few of the islands then coming back down towards Dubrovnik.

If you're staying around Dubrovnik, then a car isn't essential unless there isn't any local bus service or if you want to do a bit of touring.

Personally, I always like having a car on holidays rather than having to rely on others.

    Thanks for the reply!!

Will probably only use the to get to and from the airport, from apartment to old town and Lapad beaches.

From what I'm reading, parking can be a bit of a nightmare too

We are here in Dubrovnik at the moment and we have a car. We got it for driving around Montenegro where we stayed for a few nights but since we got to Dubrovnik we havnt used it once. We can walk into the old town from our place- 20 min stroll and we get the bus back. You are outside the centre a little so you should check what the bus service is like from your place. You can get boats along the coast in some places. Parking is fairly busy here at the moment- you could end up parking a bit outside and having to walk the last bit anyway. I'd say buses are the way to go! They are really regular-you buy your ticket from a ticket booth and the staff are very helpful at pointing you to the right bus.

Thanks for the reply KittyWake! ... very useful info there .... I'm trying to get details of the bus timetable. The car seems a lot of hassle for what I need it for alright.

Any other tips re Dubrovnik (must do things) glady welcome???? :)

It would probably be cheaper to take a taxi than have a car for short trips, no parking or navigation problems and you can have a glass of wine.

Dubrovnik can get very packed around height of season and parking could be hard to find. Buses are very modern there and if your hotel is in area it should be on a route. Re going to Montenegro with car you will have to go through border crossing and can be long delays. We did a bus tour, relaxing and you are higher up for views.
Dubrovnik is a nice place, a real food place and eating out on the plazas and streets. Same price as here or dearer.

Also, you can buy excess insurance seperately for €3 a day
