Angulus bells in a shopping centre?!

I'm just posting this here as I'm wondering if it happens elsewhere.

I was in Blackpool Shopping Centre in Cork a few minutes ago and what sounded like Angulus bells came on over all the speakers in the mall at midday.

Felt like I'd just been transported back to the 1950s

I know it's a private property but it's a space used by everyone and I do think many people go to shopping centres to pray!

I'm an atheist and it didn't offend me but just left me little bemused.

Did everyone pause and stare wistfully off into the distance? Maybe they were filming for the daily dose on rte

The midday Angelus isn't a call to prayer.

Its a 2 minute warning to let people know the Ronan Collins show is just about to begin.

Gives people time to switch off their radios.

I often wonder if the BONGS have ever been sampled for a dance track?

Hardly the Angelus or religiously motivated, probably just some automated audio messenger program to let people know it's midday and it just so happens the ringing of church bells is often associated with that. Even if it was the Angelus I would fail to see the big deal. Nobody would be forced to stop and pray.

Nope they continued on with their heathen shopping!

Maybe Rte radio one was just connected to the speaker system? Just odd!

Nope, it isn't. Especially for posters who don't frequent the forum all that much.

    Apologies accepted -- thanks.

Now all we need is an angelus performed by Linda Martin.

Reminds me of a story my (not very religious) aunt told me.

Years ago, she dropped my cousin in to my granny's to be minded one day while she was at work. 12 came, so my granny told my cousin to say the angelus and that she would answer it. So my cousin, not knowing what to do, said "In the name of the father, son, holy ghost... BOOONNG! BOOONNG!"

My cousin got a slap and my aunt got a bollicking for being antichrists :pac:

I've heard that tale so many times and it still brings a smile to my face :)
