Unlimited Sky Broadband, free for 6 months

Comments

don't know if I'm not reading correctly or not.. can't seemed to figure out why they have:

    €30 a month for 6 months
    then just €40 a month

Seems to be suggesting you need to pay 30Eur per month, so where is the free 6 months from?

The telephone line (which you have to have) costs €30 per month. The broadband costs €10 per month. This brings the total amount up to €40 per month. So free broadband is saving the €10 per month.

The line rental of 30 euros is paid to Eircom (that is what I would assume). With this Offer Sky is not charging anything for their services for the first 6 months. The evening and weekend calls are free on this package, hence the "Free" in the title

Since when did line rental go up to €30 a month. I thought it was €25:confused: Still too expensive at that:(.

    No.

If a regular customer pays €25 per month for line rental from Eircom then Sky must be getting it cheaper.
Its €30 for the first six months and €40 a month after that. Works out at €35 per month over the year. 12 month subscription. They give you a free router, and unlimited data. You just need to ring them with your account number and phone number and they will sort everything out with Eircom. They use the Eircom infrastructure so you get the same bandwidth only difference is the new router.

Lads, can you haggle with Eircom?

My parents contract is up with them and they're only getting 10gb a month. So I'm looking into changing accounts for them. Is it worth calling Eircom and cancelling and then see what they say?

Haven't seen if its next gen. Unlimited is good, but if the whole street is put on the same contention ratio, your speeds will surely suffer? Could be totally wrong

Are they within reach of the new efibre from Eircom? If not I'd advise them to go with Sky. If the experience of existing Sky bb customers is anything to go by, then they'd be on the pigs back.

Are you parents able to get eircom "NGB"? I think most of their packages are unlimited

Will half of the "free" offer (of €60) not be clawed back by your current phone provider due to their insistence on 30 days notice (which they charge for)?

I'm currently a Sky broadband customer and have been since April. I wonder would I be able to chance getting this offer

An excellent deal if you're stuck on ADSL. Thanks for posting about it OP :)

There is nothing good about this deal, if you want to move to a company with zero customer service then by all means do. Also their "broadband" service is totally contended and has massive contention bettwen 6pm to midnight and you will be lucky to get between 1-2mb during those times. They are a total shambles of a company so best bet is to stay away from them. Pay peanuts get Monkeys. If you are in a position then the best thing to get is Eircom fibre powered broadband or failing that Eircom or Vodafone DSL. Sky are like the "Three" of landline services.

I couldn't agree more with this post.
Under NO circumstances should anyone even consider going to Sky for broadband. I did and it was a total nightmare. I've been with them since January and whilst the speeds were kind of OK for the first few weeks t got progressively worse to the point where there barely any connection at all.
They were unable to offer Ny solution and released me from the one year contract and now I'm waiting to get UPC hooked up.
They are an absolute joke and I cannot say strongly enough that anyone who does move will regret it.

I'm with Sky since April and I'm getting 16.5mb on an apparent 12mb line couldn't be happier! I'm on an LLU exchange due to be upgraded in July

Go with UPC if you have access it. I am on their basic 50MB package and get between 4-5mb/s actually speed day or night.

I recently put powerline adaptors in my gaff and they are excellent. I dont understand why the ESB ( or what ever they are called now) dont have a service like UPC. They would clean up.

Most Sky customers on LLU exchanges are reporting no issues, I'm on an Eircom bitstream exchange and I may aswell have dialup in the evenings as Sky have pathetic backhaul and it is suffering terrible from contention.

I got a call from Sky with this offer. I was thinking of moving to them anyway. Went through all of the details and gave them my UAN number. All was going well until the sales agent told me there would be an extra €10 per month surcharge to eircom as my exchange wasn't unbundled with sky equipment. I politely said no thanks and he tried to sell be a 10GB download limit product. Guess I'll stick with Vodafone for a while.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but, I'm wondering as to whether existing customers can get this offer? Might chance ringing up and asking.

Are you an existing BB customer though? Or are you a new Sky BB customer.

Have to agree with 100%. I get 25 Mbps from my 30MB package , Day or night. No bull **** , no drops in service. No problems. For 3 years now.

Feck that Eircom or Sky sh1te. Sounds like a big can of worms.

Their marketing is quite clever. "Unlimted broadband with no download limits". Both the same thing.
