off up the gand canal to see where it actually goes, wow, am impressed. 10 kms from Inchicore and it actually feels like you're in a different country. Laconic nature stretching out to some Victorian ideal of placid fecundity. Mature trees, blue herons a go go, odd flash of kingfisher, otter spotted, people actually living on barges, pubs on the waterside in what seems like nowheresville (8kms from Lucan), swimming hole with a 15 foot jump, camping on the water with no one passing all evening. Gorgeous.

Hardly met any other tourers, and definitely no tourists. Why not? Bank holiday weekend. Right on our doorstep. Those gates to Adamstown(?) are a disaster. Chose to go through the badlands of Nangor Road instead of navigating them with Panniers and kid seat on the way back. Please let us not allow any more on cycle paths. Yep, I did see a scrambler on one section and understand why it's an excellent idea to barricade against them (in order to stay alive), but there,s got to be a better way. Hardly anyone on this fantastic facility to get away so quickly and completely from the big smoke.

    Why not?
