Thinking of going to see a car they have next week.

Anyone had any dealings with them at all?

    I'm not from the area.

    Thanks.

Is he not a skoda main dealer ? If he is should be ok as most main dealers are ok if they aren't they lose the franchise !

+1 If you get any sh1t you can complain to the distributor, even if the car you buy is not the dealer's franchise brand. It's a stick you can't use with an indie which explains the horror stories of which there's no shortage in this forum.

The down side is that the secondhand cars they sell will have new tyres and will come with an warranty covered by a third party and that will be reflected in the price. Swings and roundabouts.

My parents bought their octavia new of them in 2011. I couldn't recommend them enough gave us a great deal the time. My uncle bought a vrs of them this week. They are a skoda dealer. Great for servicing aswell. We got our octavia serviced there around February and they knocked a good bit of the price.

Yeah, cause his franchise only ended today, it's going to take both parties a few days to get around to updating their websites.

What is reason for franchise ending ? Premises ?

I think it was to do with premises his garage was a bit dated and showroom was small. It's a shame the staff were really nice and even Michael shaw is great to deal with. My parents will probably continue to service there car there you couldn't buy a box of matches of our local skoda dealer my parents always preferred shaws to deal with.

It can also be an issue not within the dealer's control like the location. There was a very good family business running a Fiat dealership in Ballymahon Co. Longford up to the late 90s, a nephew of mine worked there. The distributor asked them to move to Roscommon town and when they declined, the franchise was removed from them.

Whatever new sales manager was throwing his weight around in Fiat Ireland back then certainly seems to have fcuked up the dealer network, there is now no Fiat dealer at all in counties Roscommon, Westmeath, Longford, Galway, Clare, Offaly and Laois. If you live in Athlone, your nearest Fiat dealer is in Mohill, Co. Leitrim - great demographic planning there!

So the loss of a franchise doesn't necessarily mean that the dealer isn't someone worth doing business with.

I have dealt with them before and they are sound to deal with. Typical Skoda like VW and Audi wanting a glass palace showroom.

Fair play to him for not bowing to pressure to relocate/upgrade if that's the case in this instance.
I'd be more inclined to deal with them if so.

+1 Grange Motors in Deansgrange opened the first dedicated Audi showroom in the country and their reward was to have the Audi franchise removed about a year ago, it's now a Hyundai showroom.

Audi decided that they wanted one super showroom on each side of the river in Dublin and Grange lost out to the place in the old Texaco building on Pembroke Road, across the road from Jurys.

    That wasn't the reason.

Love the way everyone just assumes they know the background of the decision...
