Hiya I've started a research masters in UCC so I'll be working on it over the summer. Just wondering if any societies stay running over the summer because I'm new to Cork and could do with making some new friends as I know screw all people down here and the peeps in the lab while lovely are older and more settled?:D

The Sci-Fi society are continuing their screenings over the summer, you can add them on facebook for updates. I can't think of any others that would run the Summer, possibly some of the clubs will continue training during the summer.

Actually that sounds like exactly the type of society I'd like to join (DIT didn't have one when I was there- biggest pity in my opinion :P) Thanks very much Corkfeen!

While the Atheist Soc isn't active over the summer, a few of us are involved in Cork Humanists, a non-UCC organisation, who meet up once a month for events.

I'd love to say I was brave enough to join yer club, but a crippling fear of heights (even a ladder gets a bit much for me) would probably hinder me :P

That - the fear of heights - is why I joined myself :P. Believe me once your at the door what height your at is the very last thing on your mind, more like "please god don't let me make a tit of myself" and once your coming into land I'm concentrating so hard on my procedures I forget I'm coming close to ground -- sports amnesia :D

Do you do it in Cork or up the country?

Dramat usually do a show in the Granary over the summer, if you're theatrically inclined!

Sorry to take so long to get back to you, I was away from home so didn't get on the 'net in a while.

We go up to the Irish Parachute Club to jump, there is nowhere near Cork that allows you to jump unfortunately. It's about a 2 hr drive & what we do is car pool to save money - 4 people (incl driver) all pay €10 and thats enough to pay for the diesel for most average cars round trip.

Edit: Here's the Skydive UCC Facebook page
