Anti Vibration Mounts

    Hi all,
We live above a restaurant. Their extractor fan runs along their ceiling and is connected by four metal rods. This is causing vibration noise to run up the structure of the building, resulting in tonal noise into our apartment. We engaged an acoustic consultant who identified the source of our problem.

First step in tackling this problem is to attach anti vibration mounts to where the extractor fan is connecting to our ceiling.

Do you know where we could source these? Secondly, who would we need to carry out this work? Would it be an installer of these fans or an electrician?

    Thanks,
    PB

Firstly would you not issue your acoustic report, or advice to the restaurant and request them to resolve the issue.

Any good builders yard, plumbing merchant would have the vibration mounts.

Long story short, the restaurant claims it is developer's (who they have a long term lease from) responsibility to remedy the problem and he states the opposite.

We raised the issue a year ago and issued both with acoustic reports shown that there was a significant noise nuisance, assuming that the problem would be remedied with immediacy.

Unfortunately this has not happened. My partner and I have a terminally ill child with a short life expectancy. She is on carer's leave. We live in a one bedroom apartment, with the bedroom unusable while fan is on.

Our lives are unbelievably stressful. Due to inaction of developer and restaurant we have taken it amongst ourselves to remedy the problem. We have engaged an acoustic consultant to this end.

Potentially a vibration mount might sort it but the root cause could be the bearing failure in the fan causing an imbalance and vibration. Other issues may be fan balancing.
