Down to London, Paris and Limerick.

    Well, I'm proud.

I've seen there were some locked topics on this already, before it got down to these last three candidates. But I think they weren't from this subforum so I'll be bold and make it.

Hyde Rd or Quartier Pigalle? That's a hard one.

It would tremendous for Limerick and Ireland if Limerick could get it. I don't know what it's chances are, on the surface poor you'd think, but I hope on examination that there's good reasons why it could succeed.

I've been shocked at Limerick's negative image, stereotyped negative image in Cork and elsewhere. While I know well this city deserves much of it, there's some really great aspects to this area as well. It's not all underprivilege and slum.

Well done to Billy and all involved on getting this far.

Limerick has probably the best sporting facilities outside of Dublin - although does it have a 50m pool?

UL Arena had the first Olympic standard 50 metre pool in the country,I believe Swim Ireland have a High Performance Centre based there.

    That's that one sorted then.

Even within lgbt circles I've been shocked by attitudes towards Limerick, usually by people who have rarely if ever been here. It wouldn't be exclusively a Limerick event , part's of Clare would be used, Bunratty and Kilalloe I think for rowing/sailing.

So being gay is the same as being disabled?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭Freiheit

who said anything about 'disabled?'....we are not talking about the paraolympics. I think the opening ceremony would be Thomond Park, with running track, tennis, swimming at the University. I assume UL would need to erect a stand around the running track as at the Mo. there's none. Might even get us a new road sooner.

Non lgbt people can also participate.

Markets field will also be available, with stands, by then

Well if you need a "gay games" then the implication is that being gay is on par with being disabled or having special needs.

Like the Winter Olympics or European Championships, like winter and being European are disabilities too

Plans are also at an advanced stage, waiting for funding, for a 25m pool at UL which would make it the only place outside Dublin capable of hosting Olympic swim events.

It has the largest single site synthetic grass bank of pitches in Europe too.

Well I think it probably started because LGBT athletes were ostracized from regular themes. In many countries they still would be.

    What are "gay games" exactly?

Is it like ring toss, but with people...?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

No that is not an implication at all.

There is good explanations why that is not the case on the gaygames here

However if you are just going to troll this discussion don't bother

Thanks Mango, I was only having a joke with that last comment, people might not have fully got that. Just trying to inject a bit of humour into the thread which doesn't really seem to have worked. Never mind! :)

Sorry, I think humour sometime's isn't clear in the written form, when you can hear the tone, see the face:)

There were two discussions that had to be locked on this already (I think they were in after hours, but I don't know, do topics get moved there?) so, people might be wary.

Yep the locked discussions were in AH. Anyway they are as such irrelevant to this discussion here. I think discussing AH is completely off topic.

Okay. I'm honestly not an experienced Boards member (I have a lot of posts, but only in a few boards.) so apologies, I thought maybe it was where locked topics got moved as they were both there and locked. Nevermind :)

Limerick was European city of sport in 2011 and Shannon development are very proactive in winning conferences / events. We (ireland) would be a great location.

    Is that a serious question?

The Federation of Gay Games has eliminated the bids of Orlando and Amsterdam to be the host cities of the Gay Games in 2018. The cities still in the running are London, Paris, and Limerick, Ireland. Orlando's bid was endorsed by President Obama earlier this year. The 2014 Gay Games will be held in Cleveland and Akron.

It doesn't say that bisexuals or transgenders can take part
