Why are private coaches not on A-B.ie?

I am travelling Dublin to/from Cork later in the month and would like to know my options. A-B.ie only lists state owned companies on that route?

It lists both Aircoach (down as the 704x) and GoBE as far as I can see?

In any case your options are Aircoach and GoBE, with the former being the cheapest when booked online at 9 euro each way.

This is what I'm seeing now, when searching for fastest services. Have you selected "take neighbouring stops into account for origin and destination"?

    Aircoach
    Dublin Bus-irish Rail
    Aircoach
    GoBÉ

Depending on the locations and settings you choose the results may be better for some operators, e.g. if travelling from Heuston Station, obliviously those operators with stops there are going to have better services.

Why would it suggest taking the 747 from lower abbey street to Victoria Quay instead of taking the Luas to Heuston Station?

Imo the other site getthere.ie gives a far better layout of options for most journeys and uses more pertinant information. who is going to be able to find bus 704X on westmoreland st? are all the aircoach and other private buses numbered in reality??

    Because the bus is faster.

Some private services have used numbers for a long time and many others have started using them in the last 2 years or so. The intention is that all services would have a number.

But the 747 is set down only from the airport. In reality you can't take that journey.

The 747 has been an all-stops service for about 2 years, although it isn't something they advertise. The high fare means that in practice it is only people with season tickets would use it in the city centre.

You learn something new everyday. That would be very handy for people going from Dame Street to Heuston and vice versa. Pity about the fare though.

I get the impression there is / was a dispute between the NTA and some operators over the use of stops.

You would think they would leave their squabbles to the courts and get on with providing a journey planner for all passengers rather than reducing the choices available to so many.

Most of JJ Kavanagh services are not listed, what other services are left out? and more importantly how many of the Bus Éireann, Irish Rail and Dublin Bus services are not included even though there are serious issues with them keeping to timetables etc? Are the state operators given preference or preferential treatment when it comes to not meeting the requirements of their licences? The X20 service has been wildly off its timings for quite a few years yet it is still included as are the X8, X4, 109 and several other routes.

Which stops should the list, the official ones or the ones actually used?

And since we had this discussion last, weren't the X8 times revised?

There was a tender out recently for a contractor to do analysis of punctuality.

No changes have been made to the x8 timetable since we last discussed this.

About stops, operators like JJ Kavanaghs make a certain number of official stops on their scheduled journey but they will also have stops where people regularly wait at the roadside for them. Is this where the problem lies? Personally I would list the official stops and let local knowledge spread the word about the others.

Punctuality is not the issue but a full reveiw of timetables for all services might help. It is more about false advertising and making claims of 4hour journey times which are impossible to achieve.

For the sake of the public finances you'd hope it could be solved before the wigs get going.

My bad, thought 704X was a Bus Eireann service, and there are no GoBus services at the time I checked.

I get the impression that those stops "where people regularly wait at the roadside for them" were allocated to other operators.

As far as I can see there is little difference if any between the two x8 timetables. The older one I have is valid from July 2012 and the latest I just downloaded.

There are several stops like at the Moone/Timolin road and at Crookstown service station as well as the stops at the "Gem" in Naas and stops in Kilcullen which are used by both Bus Éireann route 130 and JJ Kavanagh's, as far as i have seen there are JJ Kavanagh poles and stop discs at most if not all of these stops. They also have their own stops at the Airport as well as the City Centre and Waterford and the stop in Carlow is shared by all bus operators.

The only difference seems to be the addition of:
WE ADVISE PASSENGERS TRAVELLING TO DUBLIN AIRPORT TO ALLOW AMPLE TIME FOR CHECK−IN.

Instead of actually delivering a timetable that is achievable, they've basically put it back in the customers court.

The 126 has been timetabled to terminate at Docklands Station but has never gone there ever! search for Naas post office-Docklands station and it shows the 126 as stopping at the station.

There are a lot more services than the X8 that need close scrutiny and should have been brought up with Bus Éireann for correction long before now.
