Options for cycling in France

    Hi,

Over the summer I am thinking of taking bike on ferry over to France and maybe cycle along the Atlantic coast 10days -2weeks. The problem is I currently only have road / mountain bikes. Could anyone suggest a decent trekking bike or if anybody has done anything similar are there other options e.g. Use the road bike and get your bags sent ahead?

    Thanks

Carrier on the road bike? Some lovely cycling around there. Check out the 'Vois Verts' cycling routes running along much of the Atlantic coasts. These range from roadside cycle lanes to dedicated paved cycling routes (ex railway lines or the like) and range from tarmac surfaces to hard sand paths.

A back rack with two panniers on a road bike should be plenty of storage for two weeks. Might not have room for a tent though. If your frame isn't drilled for a rack you could use P-Clips

yeah i dont think id have room for a tent so might have to look at b&b's. its a carbon bike so i dont know if it would be suitable for panniers. might take car and cycle out for days/overnights

    I used to stay in F1s, they're €30 a night.

Coronal and myself travelling light on road bikes. Bring only what's really necessary and buy anything else if a situation arises.

Begob, that's traveling light for sure. How long were ye away for? Every year I leave more stuff at home than previous years but have never achieved that degree of 'light'.

+1 for voies vertes. But some of the surfaces are unsealed, so you might want something chunkier than 700-23c.
